Question for 20 year olds of /r9k/: do you associate your childhood more closely with stuff of 2000-2006 like PS2, Discman, Dragon ball z, Tamagotchi, original Ben 10, and Kim Possible? Or 2006-2009 stuff like Hannah Montana, PS3, Justin Bieber, Marvelous misadventures of Flapjack, and Silly bandz?
>>
>>36682664
When I think about my childhood, I mostly remember playing at the PS1 or PC games (mostly AoE II). I didn't really listen to any music, like lot of kids at that time. But aside from that, i don't really know...
>>
>>36682664
The later stuff you mentioned is more preteen I guess but maybe theres some overlap.
>>
>>36682664
I associate my childhood with the late 90s and early 2000s. Maybe because the later 2000s are when things started going downhill for me so I don't really have fond memories of them. Most of my warm, fuzzy childhood memories are things like Animaniacs and Tiny Toon Adventures, PS1 and PS2, small TVs with no cable, DBZ, boy bands with frosted tip hair, Jennifer Lopez songs and shit like that.
>>
Childhood was PlayStation, old Cartoon Network, and vhs tapes, all that other shit was early teen years when I started hating myself and everyone else
>>
High school musical, harry potter, fall out boy, Taylor swift, icarly, death note.

Now i want to be little again.

Those things I listed don't really exist anymore.
Fuck I'm so old.
>>
2000-2006

2006-2009 was the golden age of Internet stuff though
>>
ps2 and kim possible
time splitters mostly
>>
>>36683597
Yes Kim Possible was awesome. She's actually my Halloween costume this year and I'm going to zip around my college using one of those grappling hook things that she uses and my professors are going to be like whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat and I'll be like, sorry teach can't do math cause I gotta go save the world. What's the sitch wade?

23 year old here, turning 24 on may 14. I associate my childhood with Nintendo 64, Playstation 1 & 2, Final Fantasy, Fire Emblem, and Pokemon (Up to 2nd generation).
>>
>>36684004
>Final Fantasy
>>36684004
Wivc one(s)?
>>
>>36684004

Same age as you. Do you find it weird that people only a few years younger than us watched Ben 10? I remember when it came out I was like "Yeah this is definitely kiddie shit".

It's weird to see it placed in that early 00's era to be honest.
>>
GameCube was a big part of my childhood, mariokart and the Zelda games, and shows like CatDog and Tom and Jerry (I only watch cat related cartoons). Also eating TV dinners because my parents were too high to cook
>>
>>36684111
I was born in 1998 and Ben 10 seemed like kiddie shit to me.
>>
2000-2006

That will change on 4chan within the next 3ish years when kiddies born in 2004 invade.
>>
>>36684004
This.

23 and it was all about the game boy color, Toonami, Sega Genesis, Nintendo 64, PlayStation 1&2, Dragonball Z, Samurai Jack.
>>
Mostly the latter but Kim Possible was a big deal to me and definitely made me a little gay. To this day I have a weakness for rule 34 Shego.
>>
>>36684111

It's really weird when people just a few years younger than us were the ones idolizing Justin Bieber/Miley Cyrus. I hadn't realized it until a new kid at my old job asked if we heard Justin Bieber's new album or that he was thinking of getting the same haircut as him. I was like holy shit.

2000-2006 stuff is what I consider "things I grew up with"
I had a gamecube and this goofy thing
>>
>>36684136
Agreed with all of this.
>>
>>36682664

I recently turned 20. Some stuff I remember from 2000-2006: watching CtCD on Cartoon Network, playing Donkey Kong on my Gameboy, playing Monkey Ball and Nicktoons on GameCube.

2006-2009: literally nothing, only TV I watched was Food Network stuff (love cooking) and Anthony Bourdain on Travel Channel. Played Bioshock on PC. I didn't get a PS3 until like 2013.
>>
>>36684233
Yeah I remember my parents would just sit us in front of the tv even on Christmas. I have so many memories of cartoon Christmas specials
>>
>>36684164
>>36684111
Ben 10(original) came out in 2005, so I think it just barely can be lumped into the old. 2005 was right before the faggoty Bieber/iPhone/social media/Pluto is not a planet era exploded around late 2006/2007.
>>
Born in '95, I identify my childhood as prior to 2006. By 2007 I was jerking off and the whole thing was just different, and alot more confusing.
>>
>>36684338
Dude, shits been wonky ever since they dicked Pluto all up and down. I think we threw off the planetary alignment when we changed its planet status and now all the zodiac signs are in shock and our spirit animals don't know what gender they identify as. Our society really needs to cleanse it's aura amirite

I never knew the shuffle was a usb. Huh.
>>
>>36684232
I never knew my flash drive played music. It's amazing what you learn
>>
>>36684422
yup, that's the first gen shuffle. You popped the bottom off and it plugged right into the computer, stored about 100-150 songs I think.

>PS2
First console I had. So yes.
>Discman
Don't know what that is
>DBZ
Didn't get into it until I was 16/17.
>Tamagotchi
Never was interested
>Original Ben 10
Great show.
>Hannah Montana
I'm not a girl so no
>PS3
Parents weren't keen on new consoles, no
>Bieber
Fucking hated him growing up
>Flapjack
Was/is total shit, hated it as a kid
>Silly bandz
nani

So I'd say 2000-2006
>>
I'm 20, but I barely remember much of my childhood. I guess I associate it with pokemon and other nintendo stuff for video games.
>>
>>36682664
what if no to both? i associate with 2010 stuff. also 2006-2009 is literally just 3 years
>>
>>36682664
the former. I didn't have a great childhood, but i remember the good times with ps2, DBZe etc
>>
>>36682664
19 here, but when I think back on my childhood, I think of PS2, OG Xbox, and Indiana Jones on VHS.
>>
>tamagotchi
>2000-2006
Yeah, no. Tamagotchi was tiresome and not cool before I even left 6th grade
I'm 29 now, so this was 1998
>>
>>36682664
Pokemon cards, yugioh, gameboy advance, gamecube, ps2 at my friends house, xbox 360, halo 2 and 3, downloading emulators and roms off the internet to play all the megaman games, dbz, seinfeld reruns on my shitty converter box tv. thats pretty much what i associate it with, hopefully that answers your question. Almost every example you gave is complete garbage

I don't think those grappling hooks can pull 400lbs around faster than a brisk walk pace

You'll probably end up stuttering "W-whats the stitch, wait?
>>
>>36682664
Im 25.

Pokemon, Yugioh, Spyro (because it was my first game) PS2, gameboy colour and SP, Age of Empires.

2006 - 2009 I was in high school. Thats not childhood. High school though, was lots of San Andreas, GTAIV, finding this place, limewire, FF12.
>>
>>36682664
Definitely 2000-2006. I associate it with my childhood more strongly since i was younger, so it probably had more of an impact. The stuff you mention from that period i also associate with my childhood a lot stronger than the 06-09 stuff
>>
>>36682664
My childhood was definitely mid aughties stuff; game boy sp, cartoon network, lunchables and the like. I was born in 97

I grew up pretty fast when my dad died in 07, started a long term relationship in 08, then the chan in 09. After that I was a the typical 4chan young teenager.
>>
>>36682664
Definitely more late-90s to early 2000s. I'm 21.

My family never had too much money, so I had a lot of older stuff (game systems, for example), and I always enjoyed older things than newer things, anyway. So, things that bring me nostalgia are a weird mix of older things and also (relatively) newer things.
>>
I'm 20 and associate my childhood with pokemon (3rd and 4th gen), smash bros melee, sonic dx, sonic adventure battle 2, gamecube tony hawk games, mario kart double dash, courage the cowardly dog, ed, edd n eddy, hitting the 300 million population count in the usa, obama becoming president, searching for porn on youtube and google images, watching girls gone wild previews on mute on television with my finger ready to change the channel, skateboarding, tech decks, bionicles, legos, and playing pokemon & yugioh cards but making up our own rules.
>>
2010-2013 is best
>>
19 here, turning 20 in September

It depends which part of my childhood really. My earliest memories are from about 2002-2005, at which point I had a gamecube, then a PS2. Never used to watch the same TV shows as my contemporaries and just used to watch the simpsons with my big brother all the time. The latter half of my childhood 2006-2010 I spent most of my time playing my Xbox 360, browsing the internet using old youtube of which I have fond memories of, still watching reruns of the simpsons with my brother. My childhood wasn't all that interesting.
>>
2000-2006 was better for childhood stuff
2006-2009 had a lot of great Internet shit
>>
2006-2009, but both were good.

I'm 19f.
>>
>>36682664
Ben 10,Dragon Ball and PS2
I spent hours playing the original ghost recon,I loved it
>>
>>36682664
I turn 20 next month
The first shit you mentioned was my childhood. The second was when I was just starting to lose my baby penis
That was when I discovered 4chan though and it killed my brain.
>>
>>36684164
I was born in 1997 and I fucking loved it
>>
>>36690532
As I've said before, Ben 10(original) came out in 2005, so I think it just barely can be lumped into the "old" generation of kid culture. After all, 2005 was the last year right before the faggoty Bieber/iPhone/social media era kicked in around 2007 or very late 2006.
