That said I like to differentiate between esports and conventional video games. I'd say the best of the latter is probably some godlike rpg such as Morrowind or Deus Ex.

My personal favorite game of all time is the gamecube remake of the first Resident Evil. Closely followed by RE2 and RE4. REmake is survival horror perfected though.

Melee is pretty fucking solid too. I don't have a single complaint about it

I still consider DMC3 the best action game ever made. Bayonetta is more solid on a gameplay and graphical level, obviously, but the level design, atmosphere, characters and story in dmc3 are just classic. The gameplay holds up well too. I don't feel it really has any weak points

There are a lot of things I love about Dark Souls 1 but it really is a mess, even with all the patches and dlc. DaS 3 is so polished in comparison. Everytime I think of starting DaS 1 up, I remember the catacombs, tomb of the giants, demon ruins, lost izalith. I'm sure I'm forgetting some, but so much of the game is just sloppy

The first is SO much better. I can't stand X. X has so many flaws. Xenoblade 1 is much more story based, and has a fantastic story. All of the characters are deep and changing throughout the plot. The story also has insane foreshadowing and plot twists that you will never see coming, but will make sense when you get to them. The gameplay is also way better, with the game not being open-ended to the point where it doesn't fucking make sense. Lastly, and this is a selling point, there is no Lin or Tatsu. God, those characters made me want to fucking hang myself.

X really does have too many flaws. I never finished it, but the story didn't interest me at all. Perhaps something changes drastically, but I don't care, and at chapter fucking 10, that's not good. Also, there isn't a single character I like. Making the main character silent was a fucking huge mistake. Shulk was one of the best parts of the original, and they just scrapped him for some shitty blank slate. I hate Lin and Tatsu a lot, and Elma and all of the other shoehorned in characters are just bland and uninteresting. The combat is unnecessarily convoluted and over complicated, and once you get a skell, the most fun part about the game, being exploration, is thrown out the fucking window. Skells in general were extremely poorly executed, and reduced fun rather than enhancing it.
So yeah, not a fan.

I don't know. There's just too many so it has to be put into sub groups. For instance, the rpgs of the gba would be the two Golden Suns. The best Castlevanias are the ones like symphony of the night, but there are several, some of which are on the gba. The ones with soma I liked, but one was for the original ds. As great as megaman is, the two legands were special, nothing like them. My fav mario game is yoshi's island, or super mario world two or whatever it's other name is. Best two final fantasies are probably 3/6 and 7(10?), but I never played the new ones of lots of games so I don't know.

Reminder that old games should be played on old crt monitors, if it's something like metroid prime, the first and second, or breakdown for the original xbox, as the pixels will blend better with the old screens, of which makes new games seem overrated for them having better graphics, so if it's from past around 2005, it's not going to be a best video game. Was cave story from 04? Good. 05 cuts it off I guess. 1995ish-05ish are best games.

I traveled on foot as much as I could. Unfortunately, you get your ass handed to you way too easily that way, or at least i did. It feels like the game makes it so you have to use the skell, and like you said, they were poorly executed. I don't mind silent protagonists if they're done right, like in SMT/Persona games, but conversations in XCX were almost always awkward. Looking back, I have no idea why I spent so much time playing it

I really, really like the zombies mode in Black Ops 3. I couldn't care less for the regular multiplayer.

Just for context, I had completed the first Xenoblade around when X was announced and spent months, about a year being extremely hyped. Never have I been so burned. That's why I am cautious of being hyped for 2, even if it is continuing the original story. It may be a star wars prequel. The Skells are game breaking. They allow you to subvert almost all danger, explore by holding down a button, and reach any area in the game easily and quickly. I feel like a mechanic like that should be given to a player in NG+, if at all. And I'm happy to know the game doesn't get better, because I probably won't finish it. I'd much rather play the original for a 4th time. I'd get more out of it.

I've only played Fire Emblem Awakening, and I fucking despised almost everything about it. All of the characters were cardboard cutouts with single character traits, the story was laughable, the gameplay was below average, and just everything else was bad. Some people have told me older FE games are good, but idk. I am referring to new Fire Emblem games, and how they are designed purely to market waifus, and not create good gameplay. The kanji in the teaser trailer that displays behind the credits was translated, and it has some EXTREMELY tropey and fanservicey shit that Xenoblade should never contain. I am worried because of that. The art style also lends itself better to that kind of game.
