I am capable of performing the basic techs. I just can't apply them in context within an actual match. Like if I try to use one of them, I will either spend all match trying to find an opening to do the tech and just lose, or I will forget to do it. Like, it's even a problem for me with SSB4, and there are way fewer entry-level techs in that.

I guess. I try to do that in either game, and I will be unable to do it in matches against real people. I get super nervous when playing real players, and start playing extremely retarded and without skill. Like in smash 4, I have practiced extensive gyro combos and setups and shit, but when I play real players, I will choke and just end up doing the same shit. I haven't tried to get into melee because I assume it will be the same but on steroids.
