If you're young, just buy a US equity fund, sit on it for 30 - 40 years. If you're risk averse, try a balanced fund or bond fund. If you are set on starting your own business, good luck. But, if not just invest in diversified managed funds. Gives exposure to various assets types, and sub sectors or industries in those asset classes. I personally prefer index funds as the majority of active funds fail to out perform their benchmarks, which the index funds track by default.
