Who gives worst advice?

Millennials
>Dude Just like, network. I networked and then i got a great job in my father's friends company!
>just accept it,none of us will ever own a house, just live within your means and stay away from debt
>Only use credit cards for emergencies, in fact maybe just don't own one
>I work 50 hours a week in a menial job and save 50% of my income to spend it on important things like travelling and tatoos!
>I have $5000 saves, i'm going to spend half of it on a month in Thailand!

Gen Xers
>Just get a degree and then get a job like I did, a degree 100% guarantees a job as soon as you graduate!
>GOD you kids are just so lazy this is why i REFUSE to hire anybody your age at my job!
>your generation just can't handle money!
>you have it so much easier than I did!
>I have $800 in lifetime savings and lease a Porsche
>I have $5000 in credit card debt from a week long vacation in Europe!

Boomers
>you kids are so LAZY! just go into the company, put on a good crisp suit, demand to see the manager, give him a firm handshake, look him straight in the eye and tell him you're the right man for the job!
>Or just go in there every day and ask for a job until they give you one
>you have it so much easier than I did!
>I Inherited $300,000 and now i'm spending all your inheritance lol! it's my money, go earn your own!
>Applying online isn't real!
>what's a resume?

Geriatrics
>I'm sorry, i don't know what you can do. it was so easy for your parents to get jobs, maybe you can learn a trade?
>I know life doesn't always go the way you want, but just hang in there and keep trying your best
>Life isn't perfect, don't expect it to be
>>
It's almost as if every generation have their own set of perceptual biases, assumptions about the world, and economic self-interest.

Just accept that a lot of people are going to give you crappy advice and you have to do the best you can within an evolving system, and don't fixate on these marketing terms.
>>
>>36617434
People perception of the world is influenced a lot by their twenties.
Millennials grow up in a society were the environnement is fucked, with high unemployement and low inflation, and rarefecation of low-skilled job.

Gen Xers were a generation that had to study to compete in a economy were job were rarer than their parents, but those who failed to do that could still work in a factory.

Boomers like my father lived at a time were unemployement did not exist, with high inflation. You could become a manager by starting working in the lowest position at 16 years old, no degree required in most case.

Geriatrics lived in war time and economic recession which is why they saved so much money.

The older you become the more difficult it is for you to change your view on society, so what your experience of life in your twenties tend to stay still.

In the end, no one advice is perfect. It depends on so many factors, personal preference, perception, memories, prejudice...

I'm from Europe and I read the amount of jobs in US is rising now, but "it's disputable whether this is fully Trump's doing" in an article about Trump

And since media here usually is very critical of Trump I'd take that as meaning genuinely good news for your job market.
>>
>>36618582
Congress and Trump have not passed a single piece of legislature that would vastly increase the amount of jobs in the country. Any growth going on right now is due to the previous administration. Even that growth is starting to slow though
>>

Geriatrics make me so sad. Knowing what they've lived through and they're still positive. They're the only good people you'll ever know, and they're all dying at an alarming rate.

They didn't mean to break the boomers. They really didn't. They just wanted to give their kids the world because they watched it burn.
>>
>>36618503
At this point, it's all about hanging on until a mandatory livable wage system is created. We've essentially reached post-scarcity in the Western world, and as long as we continue on with our manufacturing industry that takes advantage of countries where they haven't developed to that point, we're fooling ourselves by assuming everyone in our society needs to work. We don't.

Until then, just ride the fucking gig economy.

Anyone can get a mcjob but the question is, are the rewards for a mcjob worth the costs? No. They fucking aren't. If you have the option not to work, not taking that option is literally insane. The only exception is when the cost benefit analysis works in your favor, ie you have a high paying and meaningful job. These are becoming rarer and rarer and competition for them is becoming worse and worse and if you're not extremely hard working and intelligent you don't have a shot. The only thing left is to formalize basic income and remove the stigma for being NEET.

This is good advice.

Many geriatrics grew up in the great depression whereas Boomers only experienced prosperity. Boomers don't realize that you can do everything right and still fall through the cracks.

Half of these boomers were drugged up stoners in the 1960s and they landed good paying jobs with no experience or qualifications.

>>
>>36617434
Boomers usually give me the worst advice, those retards fail to acknowledge that you need twice the preparation to get the same living conditions that a shitty job would have gotten him in his days. My advice for anyone would be to study pretty fucking hard and invest.
>>
>>36619158
twice ? A boomer could buy a house with a year of salary, today it is a life of salary
>>
>>36619196
today it is not a life of salary, it is like 5 years of salary you're just saying it is a lifetime because it's easier for you than saying you aren't successful in the current system

>They just wanted to give their kids the world
And they did give boomers the world

but unlike every other generation, they never gave it to their children. they said no, it's ours, we were given it. why should we give it away?

and so they sold it instead, they sold their children's future to china so they could have an easy retirment
>>
>>36619586
Nah we probably live in different country, and in my city a 30m2 cost 1 000 000 euro. That is not 5 years of salary unless you are an executive.

Greatest Generation: Life can be pretty fucking tough (great recession and WW2 were far worse than what the poorest boomer went through), but you have to pull yourself up by your bootstraps and keep going. It's not the end of the world if you don't succeed straight away, just keep working hard.

Boomers: Lol you have all the opportunities an luxuries in the world! The fact that you're not a CEO earning 6 figures at 17 just proves how lazy and entitle you kids are, get a summer job at a supermarket by shaking the manager's hand and you'll end up with enough to buy 2 cars and a house outright. Also fucking immigrants are taking our jobs but that doesn't apply to you for some reason, keep applying for my job goy and you'll surely succeed!

Gen X
Literally all you have to do is not fail and get basic qualifications! Just get a generic degree and maybe a paid internship at the best firm in the country and you'll get the job in five seconds flat.

Millennials
Right, there's 6 gorillion chinks, spics, and poos lining up for the same job so I better polish Shekelstein's knob really well. Hopefully if I get the $5 minimum wage job at the dirty supermarket then I can pay off $100k in student loans for a degree that turned out to be almost irrelevant because I don't have any connections in my field of work.
>>

>apply at a million other places with no luck

WAKE ME UP
>>
>>36621023
maybe knowing the manager fucked you up, think I overheard some McDonald's employees bitching about co-worker fraternization and how its against the rules when I went on a late night run once
>>
>>36618251
you can start at the bottom and work your way up at a lot of places, franchises and big box stores generally prefer to hire in and up, get a shit part time job, work hard get full time, get into their leadership programs, advance to closing manager, to day manager, and then branch out from there. needless to say it requires a lot of hardwork but they do offer opportunities to people. i think the key unwritten requirement is not being a sperg.
>>
>>36618785
the problem with this worldview is the assumption that something is owed to you. if they only thing you have to offer is dunking frozen french fries into a deep fryer for 8 hours a day, then you should be happy to have that chance. change your outlook from 'i am better than this' to 'i will be better than this'

>>
>>36622388
probably, a lot of businesses get subsidised from the government to hire tards or people with 'learning or social disabilities' i guess would be the polite way of saying that. if you are on the spectrum find a place that works with tards , they will take you in and give you basic interpersonal skills training and then find you a job, they are usually temp jobs but if you are not a full blown retard they may keep you on part time or even full time depending on the place, it saves them money and the tards get a feeling of self worth, it's a win/win
>>
>>36620197
Also Millenials:
>"There's no jobs! I went to college but there's no work and I'm in debt!!"
>"I got my degree in Gender Studies, why do you ask?"
>>
>>36619123
>Many geriatrics grew up in the great depression whereas Boomers only experienced prosperity. Boomers don't realize that you can do everything right and still fall through the cracks.

This, boomers don't realize that these days you won't get a job just because you have a degree. You'll have to do at least 2-3 unpaid internships and have at least 2-4 months of experience within the industry you want to work in to have a chance at getting an ENTRY-LEVEL job.
>>
>>36622753
Who the hell started this meme that the only worthless degrees are in gender studies?

Most degrees are worthless and require at least a decade of schooling to get any value out of them. A lot of engineering graduates are going back for their master's after they couldn't find a job with just a bachelor's.

Every field is saturated. You need a PhD in biochemistry before they let you work as a lab grunt making 40k. This isn't Boomerland anymore where you just show up for a job and get hired the same day,
>>
>>36623248
Proof, bitch. Now.

>people who have never earned a stem degree spouting /pol/ memeshit
>>
>>36623248
i think the gender studies meme evolved from the liberal arts meme. most degrees are totally useless for the average person, specialised fields are places where special people excel, the educational system is to blame, just kids through maths and science through highschool , then they struggle through some shitter degree in something they really don't have any interest in just following the carrot on a stick which is a 'high paying job'. most people should just go into trades if they don't have a real passion for higher learning.
>>
>>36623248

Business/accounting/stem/medicine/law are pretty good degrees to have.
>>
>>36621409
Kroger and dunkin donuts managers make jack shit
>>
>>36623451
40-50k a year for kroger, dd obviously doesn't pay well, it's a coffee shop. i wouldn't really expect most fast food places to pay really well , one of my friends was a manager at a fast food restaurant when he was still in high school.
>>
>>36623447
When did you graduate?

>law

It's really not a good degree to have unless it's from top schools like Harvard, Stanford, U of Chicago. Anything past the top 10 schools is cutting it. Then again a degree in basket weaving from Harvard is still a good degree.

>stem

define stem. Is a 4 year degree in Biology worth anything? or chemistry? or what about all of the petroleum engineering grads who can't find work because the oil prices have crashed. stem is overrated as hell you're also competing against H1B poojeets

>accounting

yeah it's ok. That being said it's in danger of being automated.

>business

lol, no. This is a meme degree for normies. Just look at the career outcomes for MBA graduates. If you can leverage a top tier MBA (Harvard, Stanford, Wharton) into an Investment banking gig or a gig at Mckinsey then it's good. In general it's a shit degree. You should only get a business degree if your employer pays for it and requires it to move up in the company.

>medicine
only good degree you've listed so far
>>
>>36621451

> if they only thing you have to offer is dunking frozen french fries into a deep fryer for 8 hours a day, then you should be happy to have that chance

Oh yeah, anyone should be glad to have to waste their lives like that, slaving away doing tedious busywork all day long just to get someone else richer than they already are.

It's not even about what people have to offer anymore. There's a lot of jobs out there that really any average person can do. The issue is with the huge power imbalance between the employers and the employees. You could be perfectly capable of doing a job, but you still won't get it because they think soemone else has a better 'attitude' or whatever (aka the interviewer is personally biased based on personality characteristics that have little to do with job performance).

I'm sure there's some people on this board who are just stupid and useless and really don't have anything else to offer. But I bet there's lots of robots who just can't find work because they're shy or awkward or eccentric.

Nobody should be saying 'thank you massa fo the opportunity to be a literal wageslave', People should probably be more pissed off at an absurd system that pretends to be meritocratic, but has ultimately become all about 'networking'. Everyone's too well educated, too intelligent, too proficient and the ability to do your job has become irrelevant compared to your social status and social skills (presuming all your peers are as well trained as you are in this situation). Look at the standard job interview to see how absurd things have gotten. Pay attention to the bizzarre, often meaningless questions you're asked, sometimes with no 'right' or 'wrong' answers. Everything's become so abstracted from reality. You can't just learn the necessary skills and then start your career anymore. You always need more experience to get even the entry levels jobs. Which in turn doesn't allow you to get experience. So it's harder to get a job. It's absurd.
>>
>>36623857
i totally agree that one of the biggest problems within the working class is the fact that once in the workforce you are basically signing on for indentured servitude, workers have no voice out of fear of being fired. union jobs are pretty appealing due to the strength in numbers, but that hasn't stopped plants from laying off their entire unionised workforce and bringing in nonunion workers. as far as personality flaws or idiosyncrasies thats just the way the world is, a fat girl isn't going to ge a job at hooters, and a robot isn't going to get a job working the front desk or as the face of a company.

i think social media and online recruitment has pretty much turned job hunting into tinder 'lmao swipe left if under 6feet' and 'lmao swipe left if under 6 years experience' , i think in those cases going to the business and asking to speak with a manager would be the best bet, altho a lot of larger stores have their main offices HR do all regional hires. it is a shit situation for a lot of people but hard work and persistence is the only real option left, if you want it really fucking try to get it, at least you can say you tried.

My parents work hard. They were always convinced that getting good degrees would be vital so they supported me in attending university.

I managed to get a master degree in economics and one in tax law. Started out as a tax consultant after that.

Considering the hours I worked, the pay was really shitty. My colleagues had the same education as me, but everybody seemed to just accept this.

In less than a year I was sick of it, did a bunch of state exams and became an internal auditor at the government. No idea what I would have done if I didn't get this job.

Even with degrees from top 10 European universities, nothing is certain.
