the ideal would be to find something that you can be proud of, that gives you a lasting sense of accomplishment. even when you begin to decline, you know you made the best of what you had while you had it. both men and women can do this and there are infinite ways to reach the same goal.

Men think they age like george clooney, reality is most people do not age well. I would say the prime for men is late 20's and prime for women is early 20's.

Men are at their peak at their 40's, and still fertile until their late 50's. Women start to "decline" at their 30's, both in appearance and capacity to have children. This means that, somewhat unfairly, men can focus on their career and still have a family after to reach the top, the same can't be said of women. It's a very difficult choice for them to make, and many that chose to not have a family and children barely know what is at stake.

This is not true, men at their 40's with a successful careers have much more chance to find a woman to marry than a guy at his 20's. Of course they'll attract different types of girls... both men and women must make difficult choices but when i said that a person should find something that gives them a lasting sense of accomplishment, i consider motherhood (or fatherhood) to be as valid a pursuit as aspiring to be a high level executive. not all women find a sense of accomplishment through their work and even though nearly all men must work for a living, i am sure that very few of them are at the top of their fields, some have very little interest in their jobs beyond making enough money to live a nice life, and many of them find their lasting sense of accomplishment through outside pursuits, relationships and children instead. the mistake that most people make is focusing on something that they believe will bring them happiness (or something that does bring them happiness, but strictly in the short term) only to find out later on that they wish they had invested their time in something else.

but life is life. we all have regrets and either we learn to deal with them or live miserably.

this is why it is important to have a balance of both a career and hobbies

you do your best in your field or whatever you decide to do, work on your hobby to relieve stress and keep a feeling of meaning, and then if you grow old and decline in your career you retire and focus on your hobby, also get some new ones to fill the time and keep learning

I think the point that everyone misses about men vs. women in the looks/age department is that men don't really gain much with looks. In that I mean that no one is going to voluntarily give them resources that a woman would get based on her looks/age.
tldr: women can survive on looks, men can't

It did when I was younger. A lot, actually. I was really worried about it every year from about 23-29. It increased every year.

Turning 30 was weird. I'd just had a LTR fail. Spent that birthday day alone drinking rotgut whisky watching Breaking Bad trying not to wonder if I'd meet someone else in time to have kids.

Eh. I used to. It's like a distant memory now.

It's like something snapped between 30 and 31. I felt weird all year telling people I was 30, like I was bracing for a blow or embarrassed or something, but of a sudden 30 was behind me. Telling people I was 31 rolled off the tongue. It wasn't weird, I was almost proud of it.

I also realized I now had all these knowledge and life skill sets I'd built all through my 20s.

Between 30 and 31, I:

>raised my credit score over 150 points
>bought and paid off a car on my own
>moved 100+ miles twice with zero help
>turned down an offer for a free ride to grad school (!) because no living stipend, had to work

I was shocked at how easy it all was.

Sometimes I envy the effortlessly tight asses of 18-year-olds. I can't eat quite like I used to, or skip the gym.

But I wouldn't trade places with one of them if you paid me a million dollars.

They're like whiny stupid babbies who drink until they puke and get their feelings hurt all the time.

It's just icing on the cake that I still get carded all the time, and no one believes I'm 32. Apparently adult looks good on me.
