I feel like I've been down this road before. Not the exact same road, but I sorta know how it feels to try and pull romance from tragedy. That's a complex path.
If you have feelings for her, try and talk them out. This is something you should do in person, so neither of you get any mixed messages. If it's mutual attraction you should be open about it. At the same time I also know how it feels to be the emotional support, helping them when they're feeling shitty, and its an important role. Be there for her, but don't mistake that with being attracted to her (and don't let her do the same). I still make this mistake.
