Live in Michigan and pretty much all my work was found through craigslist. There's always a ton of listings for programming or writing (my two college majors). I even got an online certified tutor portfolio in high school math and java/c++ as a backup if i ever run out of work so I can p much tutor whenever and it's all from home.

that's really not an issue. those 50% don't magically pay themselves if you're working for a wage. Your employer simply takes them away before paying your wage, on which you again pay income taxes.
