Islamism is such a myopic 'movement'. A good amount of them seems to think that Islam is somehow resistant to secularism for some odd reason. Intense belief and willingness to commit to those beliefs is a product of their culture; expecting that to carry over into a new culture with new institutions is ignorant. What can you expect though? When you view your own institutions as 'divine' you don't exactly disect them with the same macab fondness for cultural degredation that we have in our post-enlightenment democracies. And yes you might argue that we do care for traditions and culture and that this is exactly the reason we oppose islam in the west. To that I say; look around you. We are hardly opposing anything. This is what a society hellbent on secularism for the past 200 years is going to do. Heavy immigration from the middle east is a relatively recent phenomenon but rest assured that they too will fall equally as deep into materialistic consumerism as those who came before them. It doesn't matter if you are the Hindus with their knack for secterian violence or a papal fanatic from southern europe in the early 1900's.
