Genetics are important and without proper sleep/nutrition you'll definitely not grow, but if you're still in puberty then yes exercises help. After that it's all over. The meme is that it's suppose to help as an adult, which they clearly don't.

It's called puberty. You grow during it. Several inches during just a few months. And after, you never grow again. Apart from just a tiny bit.
Nutrition, and to a much lesser degree, sleep, play a part, but the difference is small.
What I'm saying is stop whining and find some social skills I guess.
