Why haven't you sold all your meaningless shit, packed a backpack, and hit the road yet?

I'm bumming around Japan on a 1 year visa. Fishing, sleeping in a tent, working small jobs at inns and farms for food and shelter.

It's the most comfy I've ever been.
>>
The countryside is damn beautiful.
>>
you show up at a ryokan ask for temporary work and they give you a job?

not being facetious, just sounds a bit too easy
>>
>>36412097
I signed up with WWOOF. I just contact people trough there.

It's piss easy

I was just about to make a thread on this very topic. I can't stop thinking about killing myself. It's seriously making me worried because of how thorough I've arranged my suicide plan and note. The notion is starting to scare me.

but I feel if I hit the road and start traveling around I can occupy my mind. If my mind is occupied I can stave off the thoughts of suicide. Please, nothing else works.
>>
You're a loiter

Get a real job m8
>>
>>36412225
It was the same for me. About 9 month ago, I was sitting in the shower with a knife, thinking that I either end it right there or pack my backpack and become a vagabond.

I chose the latter. Best decision I've made in my life.

Just do it anon, it's really not a hard lifestyle. If you know how you fish, it's like a holiday every day.

Save up a bit of money first, though.
>>
>>36412198
are there inns that grow their own crops, or are you doing non-farming related work there?

it seems nice except for how hot and humid japan is
>>
>>36412241
I have 10 years of work experience at the age of 24.

I've arguably paid more taxes than a majority of the robots here.

I've paid my dues. Now it's my time to fuck around.
>>
>>36412264
the inn I'm at now has a little vegetable garden. I heard from another WWOOF'er that other inns do it on a larger scale.

It's comfy. I like garden work.
>>
>>36412248

Thank you for the encouragement. I've talked to others about this subject and they all called me a crazed loon. but it's the only option which makes sense to me. I have to be occupied with something or I want to blow my head off.

>tfw eat like crazy but never gain weight because of all the anxiety and pacing around my house
>>
>>36412264
And the work at the inns mostly consist of saying hello to guests and clean rooms.

If you want straight farm work, just only apply to farms. They're the least popular hosts anyway so it's really easy to get lodging on them.

What region and side of Japan?

I'm a Junior in college and I want to live alone in a strange city here in the US for the summer. I have no idea where I want to go, whether I have enough money to make it on my own, and the clock is ever ticking toward decision time.
>>
>>36411875
I'm barely capable of getting jobs in an English speaking country.
>>
>>36412198
>having enough social skill to go WWOOFing
>>
>>36412322
Right now I'm in Miyazaki because it's still spring but it's warm down in Kyushu, and Pacific Ocean fishing is awesome. Gonna head to Oita in two weeks time, then catch a ferry to the mainland and bum around there.

I have 10 grand in my savings. That can last me 3+ years if I live very basic. But I'm gonna pick up a job at the next country I head to, which will be Australia, Canada, or China to supplement my savings.

Basically just pack your back and fuck off with a thousand bucks or so. I know of absolute losers who've sustained themselves in strange countries on $500 or less.
>>
>>36412366
Dude, it's doesn't require any social skills apart from saying "yes" when some grubby old farmer points out the job you're supposed to do for the day.

Also BRB dinnertime.
>>
>>36412347
you could probably get a farm labor job and stay in the bunk house with all the foreign workers if you put yourself out there to be honest with you
>>
Also, Japan is a great place for losing weight.
>>
>>36412390
>if you put yourself out there
That's the hard part.
>>
>>36412460
>sign up for WWOOF
>find host
>"ayy m8 can I come stay with you from this day for two weeks?"
>write this to 5 or so hosts
>some say no
>others say yes
>pick the best one
>go

It's all email m8. Fucking easy.
>>
>>36412438
>raw egg with chopsticks
Disgusting. No wonder they are angry all the time.
>>
>>36411875
I've been wanting to do this for about a year now but I can't muster the motivation.
>>
>>36412241
Why the fuck would anybody give up free time to work when they have no need to? I cannot understand why people think living free is bad, even from the normie perspective it makes little sense.
>>
What the fuck do you say to the customs people when you arrive in Nippon?
Don't they ask you for a return flight ticket and hotel reservation, and to prove that you have the means to support yourself in your stay? How the fuck do.you live like a bum there?

>>36412384
>living in a strangers house

>I point out sections of the bag with clothes, cooking gear, etc
>"eeeh, what doing in Japan?"
>try to explain in Japanese that I'm a backpack traveler
>"but very cold now" (I arrived in January)
>no problem, Watashi wa viking desu
>customs man laughs
>lets me through

He'd probably questioned my camping axe and big ass camping knife if he'd bothered to open my bag.

All in all, very easy.
>>
what's this places obsession with japan? what secrets does japan hold, it's not like they have cartoons walking around. (maybe they do idk)
>>
>>36413030
Being a wageslave beta loser is perfectly normal there.
>>
>>36412876
If you have the proper visa, customs is no problem whatsoever. OP has a working holiday visa which is quite nearly a free pass to do almost anything you want for a year.
>>
>>36411875
You're going to just barely miss the onsen matsuri in Oita, you know.

But I've already promised to stay in Miyazaki until the 5th.

>>36411875

Is it difficult to get a non-skilled work visa for Japan? Or is this under-the-table work?
>>
>>36413317
It's not a huge deal. I live in the town you're visiting next and it's definitely got a nice vibe to it. Izakayas, cafes, and sweets shops everywhere. And the yellow rapeseed blossoms are lovely. Ask the rickshaw fellas for help if you need it - they're all around town.
>>
>>36413660
does rapeseed smell like sewage?
canola does, and I presume they aren't too far off in that regard
>>
>>36412198
Haha i just did the same thing but in the UK

> Farmer is a total drunk phycho
> I'm useless at everything
> Black mould in the microwave
> He locks me in with the pigs in the cart and shakes it.
> Screams at me when I'm shit with the tractor
> Made threats to slit my throat and break all my bones

I escaped under the wire on the fourth night. Fuck that shit

I helped an old couple run their little poultry farm up in the Fukuoka mountains. Ate homegrown food, drank homemade sake, and enjoyed seeing how happy the old people got when I did the hard labour they couldn't do themselves.

>>36413635
WWOOF'ing doesn't count as a job as you don't get a salary, so you can do it on a tourist visa.

>>36414261
This is from the first town I stayed in.
>>
>>36414766
you don't get a salary...?
so you're not getting paid you're just doing labor for food and board about?
>>
>>36414861
Yup. Up to 6 hours a day.

In Fukuoka that meant anything from digging and hauling fertilizer to cracking Ginko nuts. Here at the inn I just walk the dogs in the morning and help with greeting guests and clean rooms. We go fishing and cruising around the city when there's no guests.
>>
My life is books, video games and pornography, and those don't fit the tramp lifestyle. I'd rather be a hermit in my apartment.

>>36411875
do you have a japanese cutie gf yet, OP?

OP, please advice. I have remote job, my laptop is all I need. I want to live and work from there, what's the longest visa I can get?

I'm gonna do it when I've saved up enough money for my sister's college. I'm going back home after I'm done with that, there's nothing for me here.

I've been considering going WWOOFing around Japan on a working holiday visa. I'm already living in Japan as a student but want to come back and actually travel around the country.

Any tips or things to watch out for when it comes to WWOOFing? What site did you use to arrange places to stay?
>>
>>36412271

>>36412902

>>
>>36412271

At 24 you're still a kid. That's like what....a few years older than a university graduate?

Paid your dues? What?
>>
>>36412271
>I've arguably paid more taxes than a majority of the robots here.
do you think everyone here is jobless? unless you were a welder or had a very wealthy family business i highly doubt you payed more taxs in the 5-6 years worth of real work you could have been doing
>>
I'm not white or asian so I can't do that
>>
>>36411875
I'm planning on doing this only in America. I've been stalling on my preparations though because I'm afraid and depressed and lazy. I should have been gone weeks ago.
>>
>>36411875
l didn't know that was possible?

You can get oddjobs as a gaijin in Japan?
>>
>>36411875
I have similar plan but without the work.
>get on disability bux
>make bank account
>pack my bag
>be vagabond living off nature and bux

Your way is cool too, but I would be afraid of fucking up the work.
>>
>>36411875
what happens when vida is over? can you renew it or do you have to stay there illegally or get out? looked at doing this a few years back but I didn't know how to even go about getting visa
