Why do people separate the 2000s into two categories, i.e. "early" and "late"? When almost any other decade is discussed, it's always just
>The 70s
>The 80s
>The 90s

and so on. Why do people always say "early 2000s" and leave out the other half of the decade? Pic semi-related, I guess.

because it was so recent that we remember specific cultural changes between those times. We weren't alive in the 70s so whether on not something was early 70s or late 70s really doesnt make a difference.

also I actually do refer to early and late 60s 70s and 80s because I'm a music fan

Early 00's were just 90's part 2 with a little bit of 9/11 and war of terror

Late 00's were when the internet became unavoidable, Twitter, YouTube, Facebook became giants in every household and mobile phones became good enough to watch porn on

Because it makes sense to do so. There was a massive shift in society in 2007 when the iphone was released. Facebook went mainstream around the same time. Obama's campaign started in 2008.

The real generational breakdowns don't align with the decades.

It's more something like

2007-2016: Facebook era
2001-2006: Post 9/11 era. Golden age of the Internet.
1993-2000: "The 90s"
1984-1992: "The 80s"
1980-1984: Regan Era, last years when the USA actually resembled the way it depicts itself in media
1977-1980: Technology era. Very much forgotten today. These years saw incredible advances

Going back further I can't discriminate so much due to a lack of knowledge.

I always did wonder why styles and stuff changed exactly on the decade lol
>>
All of those eras have different parts, just like the 00's. Listen to things like ELO or Toto, and despite them being 80's, they sound pretty 70's still. Also the 00's was the mainstream-ification of a new technology, and the creation of a new world (the internet explosion and smartphone boom), so it behaves really differently than the early 00's/late 90's

Because early 2000s were characterized by normies hating on internet culture, while the later 2000s were characterized by normies embrassing internet culture and vidya games and MUHH NERDINESS

It's because most of us were either teens or at the very least little fucking tiny babies during that time so we know the difference.

I'm older and I can tell you that the beginning of the 90s are different from the later years.

Pic related. This dude's style was cool as shit in the early 90s but by the late 90s it was baggy jeans or those rave pants or a leather trenchoat.

It's the same with other decades. Cultures don't follow decades by the number like "oh whoops it's the year 2000 now time to change. The year 2000 was as much about 90s culture as it would be what you kids remember from around 2004 or 2007 or something.
