What I'd do is find a job that will get you close to what you want.
For me, I'd love to be a musician, but that's not realistic. So I decided to go to college as an audio engineer and work in recording studios around Seattle.
I'm still around music and make okay money too. Then at home I can make music.
I have no drawing capabilities so I can't suggest alternatives that are similar to being a 2D animator. Do you have any ideas of what you could do that's similar?

Every alternative is fiercely competitive.
Story-boarding, writing, 3D animation, etc.
You'd have to devote everything to whatever field you choose.
There's nothing good that I can think of at the moment as I've never really considered alternatives.
