>21 yr old full time student
>zero work experience
>apply to several low waggie jobs and dont even get an interview

so is volunteer work just a necessity in order to get a min wage job?
>>
>>36294052

Wait, they got 218 applications for a cashier position? Holy kek.
>>
Holy shit, this is what I'm worried about. I'm about to graduate but I have no experience in my field (the only job I ever had was completely unrelated) and I'm worried this hurts my potential for employment. Do companies take in raw recruits who are trying their hand at something?
>>
>>36294195

Graduate what? University or college?

If you get a somewhat useful degree, then you'll get a somewhat well-paying job. People like OP are uneducated and thus unable to compete for a competitive salary.

Of course, I'm in a similar boat, given that I'm a student. However, having some work experience means I get calls back from almost everywhere I apply for part-time positions.

My ex has an adv degree and makes $70k per year. She's 23 and is almost done with an MBA.

Jobs are easy to come by for people who aren't retarded or unskilled.
>>
>>36294052
just lie and say you've worked a bunch of entry level jobs before, I do it all the time and have never been rejected a wagie tier job.
I don't agree with lying about jobs that require genuine skills but who cares if its entry level anyone can do

>>
>>36294237
>Jobs are easy to come by for people who aren't retarded or unskilled.

Utter fucking bullshit. There are people with Phds working at Krispy Kreme.

I interviewed for a job recently. They had me take an aptitude/IQ test. I got the highest score in the 20 year history of the company. The CEO even gave me a call to congratulate me on getting that score and he still didn't hire me. It was even a good job either. It was boring clerical work that I could have done in the eight grade.

I've filled in close to a thousand job applications and the best job I've had so far was a call center job that paid minimum wage. I have a STEM degree. I can code. I'm relatively intelligent but not one company has taken a chance on me. They all want 5 years of experience. The market is so flooded with foreign workers that they don't need to spend time recruiting local talent. Why should they when they can call up Tatagroup and have a Mumbai code monkey shipped over by the end of the week.
>>
>>36294195
>Do companies take in raw recruits who are trying their hand at something?
yeah for entry level phone sales shit. any nigger with a bachelors degree in whatever field + ok grades will eventually get hired. might have to send out 1k resumes like the other guy ITT mentioned

>tfw got a warehouse position making $15 an hour with no experience

Its not really THAT hard, some places actually want people that dont have experience, so they can train them they way they want to. Have any of you tried to go through temp agencies? they basically do all the job hunting for you, you just have to show up at the interviews, thats how I got my job.

Yeah keep thinking you're immune from this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1L81q5iCtg

All it takes is a few short-sighted bean counting managers and you'll be digging ditches for minimum wage - and that's if you're lucky.

"Nikola Tesla even lost control of the patents he had generated, since he had assigned them to the company in exchange for stock.[60] He had to work at various electrical repair jobs and as a ditch digger for $2 per day."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikola_Tesla

Restaurants are probably the only type of business where this will still work. I can't see this working for any other kind of business.

If you want an $8/hr dish-washing job I guess you could do this. You'll probably also end up cleaning the restaurant toilets too.

Well that goes without saying. College degrees are toilet paper these days.

Here's an unpaid marketing position that requires a college degree and 3 years of relevant experience.

lol, good fucking luck college graduates. That's what you get for listening to your parents generation and heading off to college.

Life isn't about working hard, dumbass. It's about making other people work hard for you and being smart. Look at the banks that got bailed out and used that bailout money to give themselves huge bonuses.

Moral of the story is while you're cleaning shit for a living like a chump, I'll be making 100k starting at a bulge bracket bank.

DO VOLUNTEERING. Seriously. What they're looking for is basically just past experience working period, so they're not dealing with a total sperg newbie. If it's in that field even better. Don't have to deal with a total sperg newbie in that field.

Like I've seen a ton of arguments here that volunteering is dumb because it's being a wagey for no money. But whats the alternative? You either volunteer and get no money but get work experience or you just sit around and still get no money and also no work experience.

My friend volunteered and got a job in a month, I got a job in 3. They're just basically looking for the fact you've been in a work environment before.

Volunteering also helps in getting rid of that initial work environment cluelessness too.
>>
>>36300940
Are you retarded? That's not even an absurd amount. In a lot of states, in order to keep collecting unemployment benefits, you have to submit at least 10 applications a week. That's over 500/year. That's the bare minimum an unemployed person sends out in a year.

I was sending out 10 resumes per day at minimum before I found a job. I'd already sent out 400 in a month.

This isn't 1985 anymore where you look through the classifieds make a few phone calls and get a job on Monday. Finding a job is basically a full-time job.

I was in the same position looking for work while being on Job Seekers for 9 months. In those 9 months I had in total 4 interviews and recently got a job which is very unique and I was very lucky to get it and it's an amazing job.

My advice to you is you need to fix your CV. I know exactly how you will think when you read this, I would have felt the same but its true.

You also need a very solid cover letter for every single job you apply for. Remember, they will look at your CV for 10 seconds, and if you don't standout in those 10 seconds you will go on the NO pile, if you stand out you will go in the YES pile and they will read it more in depth and then invite you for an interview.

Seriously, look into applying at some factories if they're any around where you are. Not necessarily manual labour positions but alot of places need to hire QC, sales, or even some shit like CMM technicians where your schooling would easily fulfill the requirements of the position.

I realise working in a factory may not be the most prestigious place but they usually pay well and they have plenty of opportunities.

I never will understand why americans need experience to do low skill jobs especially like burger flipping and cashiers. I mean it's utterly pointless, everyone has to start somewhere and raising that bar extra high is complete bullshit, especially when the job will only pay minimum wage even if you have more than 1 year of experience. I feel sorry for all you american robots that can't into a job because of these stupid "qualifications".
>>
>>36305343
Speaking as someone who has a job and is friends with an HR person, the requirements are mostly there just to see how you are in a working environment. By that they mean, do you show up to work when you are suposed to ? Do you show up late? When you're at work do you actually work or do you stand around like a nigger?

Most plsvrd dont give a shit if you have any relevant skills they just want to make sure your going to show up and not be a complete lazy fuck. If you get an interview make sure you answer the questions even if it involves you being a 5 year old trying to put together some fucking lego make it seem like you put effort into you're existence.
