I'm sort of pathetic for making a thread about it when I know perfectly well taxes aren't as scary as they appear, even though I've never done them.

I'm only concerned because I'm in a special-ish situation. Basically my uncle died a couple years back and left me with ~$17,000 in the form of a trust fund, most of which I still have as I've largely only needed it for groceries. The problem is, I basically know nothing about the terms and conditions of said fund, because my relatives handled the details at the time, didn't bother to explain them to me, and I'm monumentally idiotic and didn't ask.

What I do know about the it, (from the relatives I live with, whom are not exactly rooting for my well-being,) is that there's some kind of condition that, once my taxes are filed this year, make all, or almost all, of that savings go away.
I gather that my uncle wanted it to be saved for my future, and so, I was not supposed to actually USE much of it, and once I file taxes, it'll be locked. I only found out about that juicy detail this week. I might even owe a couple thousand in dept, I literally have no idea, they basically hinted as much.

So I'm basically in a situation where I need to man up and ask what the hell is going on. But while my family obviously wishes me ill, and does not wish to assist in helping me do taxes in any way, I at least trust that the loss of my funds was not an idle threat.

I'm also a loser and got fired last month, so I don't have any income at the moment. If it's really the case that I'll be in debt and my entire savings will be drained, I'm fuuuucked.
