I was raised in a very conservative fundamentalist southern Baptist evangelical church in a small town in the middle of the Bible belt. As a kid I thought my parents, sunday school teachers, youth leaders, pastor, etc. were these model citizens and great models you could always look up to. That's what I was taught to believe. I went to church every Sunday morning and Wednesday night, I went bible camp in the summer, and mission trips in high school. I thought these were pure, godly people.

When I became older, I began to understand how fake it all was. what was really going on behind the scenes.

One of my sunday school teachers raped somebody. Somebody else in the church had relations with children. My mom, this supposedly pious Christian woman, cheated on my dad. Some of the men in the church were cruel to some mentally handicapped people. The preacher was this grandstanding megachurch type who just said things to appeal to the crowd and it wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't actually believe any of this shit.

They're all phony. None of it is real.
