Chess is a meme. I played for months and got to 1600 rating but it's a shot hobby. You play chess to become better at chess, it doesn't have any value unlike learning a language or an instrument

>everybody since like elementary knew how to play chess
>except you
>"oh anon, you don't know the rules?? like wtf haha, it's so easy to play chess xD"
>nobody ever bothered to teach you
>nobody in school didn't want to play because I didn't knew how to play

I started playing 2-minute games on Chess.com 3 years ago. I was averaging about 700 then, my all-time low was 580-something. Today, I'm 1500 blitz, 1600 classical, 1800 tactics. Just keep playing. Have fun.

>over 120 IQ
>takes me a long while to grasp basic tasks at work
The upside is if I do it long enough I become better than the average worker, but it does take time.

IQ is meaningless and one day we will be amazed that we ever gave it much thought. We all learn different things quickly and different things slowly.

Getting better at chess improves your creativity.

>memorizing the same common openers and playing them over and over and over again helps improve creativity

The opening is a few moves. The middlegame and endgame is all about creativity, especially if you're playing longer time controls. The benefits of playing chess and the positive impact it has on the development of children are well-documented.
it's just a matter of practice and learning. you can't expect to be good if you have little experience
