>You need to work faster than this, Anon. Jimmy can do 50 orders in a minute, and he's retarded.
>Anon, you have to be more enthusiastic. If you stop smiling for just one second I'm going to fire you.
>No, Anon, you can't go to the bathroom. Hold it in until the end of the day. It's too busy to go until then.
>I don't care if you're sick. Don't worry about infecting anyone else. We need you here no matter what.
>Anon, I need you to stay and do 12 hours unpaid overtime. No excuses, this is mandatory.
>>
>>36091098
Only a bitch would let themselves get walked over at a fast food place
>>
You literally cannot be ordered to do unpaid overtime and if they fire you for refusing you can sue.
>>
>>36091251

THIS

Even the cuckiest of jobs still have labour laws that apply to them. Stand up for yourself you spineless cunt. You live in the first world for fucks sakes.
>>
>>36091098

>working in a fast food restaurant

you deserve it you cunt
>>
>working a new retail job
>stocking shelves
>about 4 weeks in
>store manager comes up to me
>"you're unboxing things about 2 seconds too slow, we need to get you to work on how long you hold onto stuff before its on the shelves"
>"i have to get my money out of you, ya know?"
>not even that busy of a store
>i always finish the job anyway
>telling me I need to move faster and that he's not getting his bumfuck 8 dollars worth out of me

I quit a few weeks later.
>>
>>36091098
>Anon, I need you to stay and do 12 hours unpaid overtime. No excuses, this is mandatory.
That one's actually illegal. There's gotta be like a state agency you can report them to for that.
>>
>>36091416
what store? i applied to costco as a stocker maybe it wont be this shit
>>
>>36091450
big lots
>>
>>36091449
>>36091335
>>36091251

>tell them you don't want to work unpaid overtime
>they give you more shit and criticize the tiniest shit you do
>basically force you to quit

it's a lose lose situation

and i'm currently living in this shit
>>
>>36091468
besides that shit was it a hard job?
>>
>>36091499
They can't make you quit, just sue them if they fire you for not doing overtime. It's not hard, stop being a bitch.
>>
>>36091251
>Implying they don't know that
They'll just cut your hours and/or make your life a leaving hell and paper you out the door
>>
>>36091530
it's my first time working, if i quit without fulfilling my contract it will be like a resume suicide.

and they can make you quit by giving you more work than you're supposed to carry, and putting you in situations where the odds are against you.
>>
>>36091509
To be honest, not really.

They hired me as a fucking stocker for 8 bucks an hour, about 15-25 hours a week depending.

They then expected me to learn how to cashier even though thats not what I was hired for saying "everyone has to do it" even though that was a fucking lie, I left before they started it on me.

An example of a morning job instruction thing would be like "okay so I need you to do these 4 main things today within the 8 or so hours you're working"

>get all the parts for a massive display out of the attic, then build it and stock it ALONE
>get the pallet of random glassware out of the back and RESTOCK THE ENTIRE GLASS AISLE while putting the glasses already there back in perfect rows even though people will just move them within 5 minutes
>take these 200 bags of porch seat cushions into the attic, but since they weigh about 40 pounds each and are giant and awkward, that means each one is a trip up and down the flight of stairs
>put this entire pallet of lamps together

And while doing that, make sure to be available to help customers even if they hold you up for half an hour.

W-WHY ISNT THIS JOB STILL DONE ANON????
>>
>>36091530
People can very easily make you quit without breaking any laws if they try hard enough or they can find enough tiny reasons to eventually fire you even if it takes them months
>>
>>36091151
fpbp

Besides only morons work in fast food
>>
>hear about those office jobs in china and japan
>they dont fire you for legal reasons, they just throw you in a room where you're given boring tedious tasks or completely left alone
>still paid, still on insurance and everything
>they do this in hopes that you will just quit after you've succumbed to hating yourself

THEY DON'T REALIZE THAT I WOULD LOVE THAT

i wish shit in america did that
>>
>tfw slow worker
these niggas need to slow down. they're rushing through everything, making mistakes and not cleaning their work area.
>>
>>36091672
God, that sounds like a dream come true.
>>
>>36091720
I remember one /ck/ anon saying he got hired as a dishwasher and they were complaining that he was taking too long to clean things

His manager got one of the people already working there to clean a plate to show him how fast it should be done, and when he pointed out that there was still food on the plate the manager yelled at him
>>
>be 23 year old junior in university
>took lots of time off to travel abroad
>spent two years as the operations manager of a small logistics company
>finally getting ready to finish my degree
>have to get a part-time job so I can study and still be productive

>settle on a freelance writing gig that pays $1k per month for about 4 hours of work weekly

>take a position as a delivery driver for a corporate chain
>literally don't do anything during my shift
>if there are no orders, just ignore everyone and read a book
>finished two books in the past week
>about to start on another today

>being older than 18
>giving a fuck about managers at minimum wage jobs
>letting your shit-tier bosses force you to stay late
>not realizing that your labor is being exploited and exploding with anger whenever your employer tries to grease more shekels from your aching muscles
>>
>be working in grocery store as a cashier over the summer while in uni
>crazy number of things i'm supposed to do for each customer
>greet them, ask if they found everything alright, ask for courtesy card, ask if there's anything on the bottom of their cart, show them how many points they had and explain how they work, highlight the points on the receipt
>i basically did none of it
>constantly being called into office and told that i need to do these things
>"oh okay sorry i thought they were optional"
>coworkers make fun of me for not doing this and for being antisocial in general
>get put on cart pushing duty (actually much comfier than cashier)
>coworkers make fun of me for being demoted
>finally graduate uni, now making 6 figures
>glad i didn't give a fuck at grocery store
>>
>>36091509
I'm guessing you in in Upstate NY?
>>
>>36091744
I used to be a dishwasher and can confirm the manager got mad whenever I didn't go fast enough, even thought I moved fast. I actually said the same thing to my manager once about the plates and dishes still being dirty and they didn't care. They just told me to wipe them off with a towel instead of sending them through the wash again. I walked out on them needless to say.
Never work restaurant. You'll hate your life just like the people working there do.
>>
>>36091499
>>36091530
I don't know where you're from but here in the US they don't have to 'make you quit.'

Employment is 'at will,' which means you must sign a contract before a formal offer of employment is extended agreeing that the employer can terminate you at any time. No reasons required, they can do it at will.

Even if it's technically illegal, labor violation, discrimination, or something like that. Obviously they won't blatantly do something illegal, they'll just make up some other reason.

Saying you don't fit in, you're not productive enough, not a team player, poor attitude, etc etc etc they can really use any excuse they feel like because you as a worker have no rights.

The only way out is to have some kind of very valuable and difficult to replace skill set.
>>
>>36091779
It's truly an injustice that such a poor worker as yourself is lucky enough to be gifted such easy and well paid jobs while actual capable hard working anons are forced to suffer in wage slave hell.
>>
>>36091807
can't agree more
wish i could find something better but not with this collapsing economy.
but until then i'll flip burgers
>>
>>36091779
I'm currently a delivery boy, shit is cash and I love driving so it's as cash as it gets for wageslaving. Also live nearby so I can go home during 0 order hours, they just give me a call when an order comes so I come back as they prepare food.
>>
>>36091872

Paid my dues doing that - I'm sorry other Anons are stupid enough to grease Ronald McDonald's boots instead of finding a position where they can kick back and slack.

>>36091928

I hate the delivery bit of it, to be honest. Having to subsist on tips - essentially charity - is utterly degrading.

Oh well. Three more semesters and I can start on a PhD program and improve my begging skills to snag grants and stipends.
>>
>>36092004
>stupid enough to grease Ronald McDonald's boots instead of finding a position where they can kick back and slack.

not many jobs, other than shitty restaurant/fast food/retail jobs, have the flexibility that i need. most of the 'good' part time jobs all want me to work during hours i have class.
>>
>>36091900
Just work as a prep cook somewhere full time and get a side job. A lot of hours but a prep cook is honestly the easiest thing you can do in a restaurant. I did it for a good two years until I got a better job but in that time working 60+ hours a week felt like nothing because as a prep cook I just chilled in the back doing repetitive easy shit while listening to music. You don't get paid nearly as much as the line cooks but it beats being in a constant state of stress.
>>
>>36091098
Shit, I worked at a Mcdonalds for 1.5 years. As long as you are back in the grill, where I primarily was, they don't give a shit if you are smiling or not. As long as you aren't loud and as long as you are getting orders out.

Also out of fear of overtime, or any extra hours/minutes, managers would get upset if you clocked in or out a minute too early or late.
>>
>>36091824
>Even if it's technically illegal, labor violation, discrimination, or something like that. Obviously they won't blatantly do something illegal, they'll just make up some other reason.

I got that this week. Got fired from my job for doodling. One of my doodles (a smiling dude with a big head and tiny body) was face up in the garbage and that was considered creating an uncomfortable working environment. They didn't even have the balls to tell me, they had the temp agency call me. Fucking cowards. No wonder their employee retention there is utter shit.

I'm a month into a fast food place and I want out.

No idea where to start looking as an introvert, I work fine but I feel so pissed and anxious at the end of the day.

Anyone else? I'm going back to school in a few months but until then I want to work.

we have biglots here in CA. it seems like an even shittier Ross or Marshals I only go in to try dank new discontinued soda pop

What stores do you like shopping at if any? I did part time at a record store a while back while I was still in school and loved it even though I'm a shy beta introvert.
>>
>>36092727
Mostly clothes. I'm pretty normie to be honest, the reason I want to work is because of my gf.

I finally got comfortable in the job two weeks ago and my anxiety spiraled ever since because now I can pay attention to my co workers tendencies and they're all immature and talk about eachother and people all fucking day. It eats at me and I can't do it.

I want to put my two weeks in today but I have no back up.

Normans remove yourselves.

ROOOOOOOOOO

Geez, here that'd be a case for suing and employer would loose.
Hell I sometimes doodle in my little notebook, read news from my phone, go talk with dude on other part of the line etc. if there's downtime for some reason. I work at brewery and if one part goes down after some time whole line stops.

At my work I go through at least three liters of water and mineral waters every day so you can guess my bathroom habits. Not a single complaint so far and there will not be because those drinks are free, on the house.

Oh well, I'm a manager, not my issue. I'll just hand food out at the drive through window and let everyone else do the work.

the fuck is a trolley? do you mean shopping carts?

Lad, my store has like 8 people at uni, and a few who have finished but have continued working here.

Fast food (in the uk at least) is for normies, not morons.

I work as a night porter at a hotel and most of the time I'm all alone but all the stuff hates me and tries to find little things to fuck with me. They all treat me like shit and I;m not sure how much longer I can take it

The women are the worst. They;re like snakes, they hate their lifes and try to make others life as hellish as possible

>>36091672
They're called "rubber rooms" here in the US; you typically find them in places with unionized teachers/office workers
>>
>>36092601
do you have a car? I'm introverted and deliver pizzas, there's plenty of time spent alone in my car, in store stuff is more social but easy enough

Why do they hate you?

Fight them with every ounce of your being. Burn the building down

One of the best jobs I had was a lunch tray lady/light janitor.

What I mean by that is I worked at a dead shopping mall's food court. My main job was to gather dirty trays off the table, clean and dry them, then bring them back to the food court restaurants. I'm not a woman, but virtually 100% of the people who work that job are middle-aged ladies. They were desperate enough to take anyone though so I got in.

There was no small-talk besides the "hey how are you today good great" because we always found busywork to make ourselves seem valuable, and we would be working at opposite ends of the shopping mall to split the workload. We would wipe the same tables three or four times, clean the legs of tables and chairs which no one ever looks at ever. I'd often take a cigarette break every 20 minutes. During the lunch rush we were actually fairly busy as well so we just shut up and focused on cleaning those trays. We also did very very basic janitorial duties like washing the floor and the mirrors & sinks in the washrooms, but not the actual toilets we had specialists come in and do that.

Obviously some food courts and shopping malls are extra busy, but that just makes the time pass by
>>
>>36094854
Because I'm different and don't fit in. My appearance and personality just pisses them off. My presence is very disturbing to them and I made the mistake of trying to talk to them and make friends too, so that backfired horribly
>>
>>36091098
I've never had a job but if someone told me I had to smile for 8 hours a day and had to ask for fucking permission to use the bathroom I would just walk out. That's chain-gang tier.

Not saying I would openly be a rude disrespectful autist but when I need to piss I'm going to piss.
>>
>You need to work faster than this, Anon. Jimmy can do 50 orders in a minute, and he's retarded.
>Anon, you have to be more enthusiastic. If you stop smiling for just one second I'm going to fire you.
You really should strive to do a good job at work, Anon.

>No, Anon, you can't go to the bathroom. Hold it in until the end of the day. It's too busy to go until then.
The only fast food job I've had was at Little Caesars. My boss never pulled this shit on me. I also never had to ask them to go to the bathroom, and the general rule was "make it quick and remember to wash your hands afterwards."

>I don't care if you're sick. Don't worry about infecting anyone else. We need you here no matter what.
I have only gotten the opposite response from my bosses. If you're sick, go home, we don't want you infecting the customers, and we don't want a nasty visit from health inspectors.

>Anon, I need you to stay and do 12 hours unpaid overtime. No excuses, this is mandatory.
This is literally illegal, and it is never necessary, because of how trivial it is to find someone else to cover your shift. There is ALWAYS someone available.
>>
The two jobs I had like this I quit quickly. All the jobs I've had I was treated well at. I REFUSE to accept disrespect from some moron in a "supervisory" position at some menial job. I would literally be homeless before I subjected myself to such treatment.

Now I have a good job where I'm treated well and have very low stress and lots of free time.
>>
>>36095098
It's weird. I'm a permavirgin loser, never had many friends and always feel alienated among peers, but I've always been treated well and respected by work associates/bosses. I think it's because I'm tall.
