The early 2000s weren't that great, and yet they still look so much more appealing compared to now.

I was born in the 90's, but really wish I could live in the 80's because of the way my dad talks about all of the fun shit he did back then. He's old enough that he also talks about the 70's and 90's in the same fashion; but neither sound like they were as good of an era as the 80's.

That fact that you chose a picture of a desktop computer as your menory for an entire decade is laughable.

Fuck... shit was better when the internet wasnt social.

Early 2000s kids of /r9k/: what things do you find yourself missing from the early 2000s?
>>
>>36046609
George Bush JR. Was president, 9/11 hyteria, beginnings of the 16 year war on brown people and slow internet . I don't think it was really any better than today.
>>

The early 2000s is when most cars started to turn to shit while computers started to get better and faster before social media killed them. If you want a decade to remember cars it would be the 80s at the latest.
>>
>>36046609
How old were you in the early 2000s?

I may have only been 11, but I remember using those pcs and hating them.

Load times took for fucking ever for games that had sub par flash tier graphics. The keyboards and mice were also abysmal.

Nothing about that even looks remotely appealing to me, it didn't when it came out either.
>>
>>36046942
It still was, just not to the extreme degree that it is now. There was MSM and various imageboards dedicated to topics in the early 00's.

The difference is that the average shit poster like us had a terrible internet connection, and I personally didn't have my own computer due to the price.

So while I could still talk to friends/shitpost on a forum, it was for a limited period.

Internet was slow and batteries sucked.

I miss 2000 - 2001 because it was a nice threshold between the 90s and the future.

We had 3D graphics and later on the Xbox by 2002-2003, but we didn't have the capability to play with people from all over the world today.

While the internet was taking off, kids actually playing outside (I was one of them) and going out to the store to buy things was a common sight, rather than spending all day inside.

Video games were still pretty fun for me, the games were addictive and well thought out, also not corrupted by a political agenda.

Basically, I miss when high technology was good enough to make our lives easier, but not so great that it consumed our lives entirely.

Cars are faster, more realiable, and more efficient than ever. And the whole compact meme of the 90s and early 2000s is over. But fuel standard electronic fuel injection in the late 90s are when cars stopped being absolute shit in general. I mean, cars don't look like spaceships anymore like they did in the 60s, but they at least aren't a bunch of slow gas guzzelers.

Let's not forget the god awful emo craze of the late 00's.

I had the misfortune of being in my late teens when it happened. A lot of people I knew become personality lacking, whining, crying, attention whores because that was the thing to do at the time.
>>
>>36046609
The early 2000s were shit. I mean, since you were prolly in middle school, you wouldn't understand considering all you did was play Roller Coaster Tycoon or Runescape. I worked 2 jobs just to finance my 1997 Dodge Neon which broke down ever other week, and I didn't have an message boards to complain on. The way I see you'd be wise to consider yourself luck to ayy yo nigga bix nood mo' fucka check deez nuts on da 22 inch rims bitch nigga mo' fucka

i miss discovering the world.
Nowdays everything is boring. I see how stuff works, i know what happens and why it happens.
As a kid, it was sooo amazing to discover all the things, all the wonders this world could show.
But today everything just seems grey, and exhausted. Every day is always the same.

Nah, early 2000s were terrible, my country was poor as fuck, I couldn't afford comfy neet life back then.

Nowadays things are way better, I'm only much more lonely now.
>>
>>36046987
I miss the rapid technological advances which made every video game feel amazing, the looser rules before social justice went crazy, an economy where money grew on trees, society before it became totally obsessed with phones & other shit. Music was a lot better as well, I know we cringe at shit like Evanescence & Linkin Park, but the edgefest that was the 2000s beats today by miles. The internet was also a lot more fun back in the early-mid 2000s.

I miss the subculture of it. Nowadays, everything goes with everything, there are no subcultures anymore because normies co-opted everything with emo & scene. The 2000s was this bizarre decade which felt like the 90s was trying & failing to evolve.

Also, is it nostalgia, or did people really seem much happier & more fulfilled back then?
>>
2000s were just more comfy
>>
>>36048712
Worst thing people had to worry about back then was the stuff in Afghanistan/Iraq. It sucked but it still wasn't as bad as now.
>>
>>36046863
I was born in the early 80's but desu early childhood for most kids was more or less the same for anyone in the 80's and 90's if you grew up before the internet age.

my elementary school was weird though. I could walk out of "class" at any time and go outside school grounds even if I made some kind of pretext about studying nature or something. Also there were forests around so me and my friend would just wander most afternoons.

>etc.

You could not pick a more biased groups to ask about the 2000s than a bunch of people who were literal kids back then.

Of course it's better when viewed through the heaviest of nostalgia goggles.

Late 90s were the best, even if the internet was not a household appliance just yet. Actually it was better because of that.
>>
>>36048712
I think because people weren't as connected to the world around them, people felt comfortable taking their time learning and doing things. You didn't have to produce results for the world to know, or be reminded of how everyone else is doing.
>>
>>36046609
You should have seen the 80's
We read books.

>computers started to get better and faster before social media killed them
So is this why specs of cheap and mid-priced laptops have generally stagnated or even regressed since the early 2010s?
>>
>>36047211
more like
2000-2001 great (just like 90s but slightly better)
2001-2006 meh (things get colder and darker)
2007-2008 great (not sure why but it feels that way)
2009-2011 shit (economic recession and more darkness)
>>
>>36049268
>Late 90s were the best
I agree, but I'd add 2000 and maybe the first half of 2001 to that. Then again, I was a kid around that time (born in the late 80s), so my opinion isn't the most objective one.
>>
>>36046609
i was a child in the early 00's and i have to say i would have loved to live in that era when computers where in my opinon much better built. i would have killed to play morrowind for the first time on an old Dell Latitude D620 i would have loved to carry my GBA to school to play pokemon
>>
>>36049859
I was a teen around that time.

Everyone here is too young to even be aware but 9/11 had as much of a cultural impact than it did on the dynamics of global armed conflicts.

By the early 2000s, all the stuff that people love from that time like counter-cultures and edgyness was already on its way out. Stuff like emo was just an echo of nu-metal and 90s punk and mallgoths.
>>
>>36046851
>>post 9/11 nationalism
you mean media emotional response blown way out of proportion to how I actually felt about it

I didn't care at all, and it just aggravated me seeing people talk about it so much

>By the early 2000s, all the stuff that people love from that time like counter-cultures and edgyness was already on its way out. Stuff like emo was just an echo of nu-metal and 90s punk and mallgoths.
Why though?
>>
>>36047060
get the fuck over it jesus, life is what you make of it, if your life sucks now it's your problem not the decade we're in
>>
>>36046609
my dad a computer with a 2gb rom, floppy disks and windows 98 which I secretly used to fap to some erotic pics on the internet
>>
>>36050480

why what?

Generally speaking that's just how counter-culture comes and goes into the mainstream, it comes in waves or curves and transitions from one thing to another.

If you look at like punk rock and metal from the 70s it was partially a response to the glam of disco but it was also the next step in counter-cultures after hippies had died out, which themselves were just an extension of the beatnick movement from the 50s.

If you look at the 90s you had the grunge and alternative rock in the beginning of the decade and then nu-metal and third wave ska and punk rock in the later years of it but in the middle pop reigned supreme.

It's the same with metal in the 80s where it was all over the mainstream with glam rock and hair metal, but then died down only to come back as thrash metal which itself peaked by the early 90s and came back later as nu-metal, etc.

All counter-cultures tend to mash and overlap, but they do come and go every handful of years, by the time that My Chemical Romance was at its peak popularity in 2007 it was already over for that period.

By the early 2010s the newest subculture was dubstep kids and internet memes.
>>
>>36046609

The early 2000s were in fact terrible. The fact you think it still looks more appealing compared to now tells me you're a sad pathetic excuse for a human.
>>
>>36046987
Internet, computers and vidya were good enough but not that much advanced
When Internet became a big thing and social medias came out of nowhere back in 2006/2007 it all went to shit.
Nowadays everyone is addicted to this shit and people are less cool.

tl;dr when we still had both Internet AND real life
