My self finding out was pretty fucking painful, I won't lie to you. I was raised Irish Catholic by parents who met in the army, so it was a pretty conservative household and I didn't even know what gays were until I reached my teens and got the internet. Even then I never really thought I was one though, I just thought I was a late bloomer because all the girls at school talked about boys and I didn't care about that.
It got pretty bad in high school because I started having lesbian thoughts about girls at school. It still messed me up though, I started self harming and trying to erase everything remotely sexual from my life. After a while I was put on antidepressants and my embryonic sex drive was killed dead. I know it's hard to hear and even harder to do, but if you have a crush this intense who clearly isn't interested in you romantically and really isn't a good friend to you, you need to stop.
The easiest way to do this is distance.

Most of my academic year 2014-2015 I was similarly hung up on a girl who I was sort of friends with. Just a couple of weeks after returning home for the summer, I realized it was over, and I was so relieved. Your problem seems much more intense and long-lasting, so it might be harder and take longer to get over it, but I think you can do it. In my case I was able to hang out with my friends later that summer, including her, without being bothered by the same feelings again. Just to be on the safe side, you might want to distance yourself from him for a longer period of time, especially if you routinely see him at school, work, etc.

Honestly, if he's known you that long and still isn't interested (assuming you aren't underage b&) it probably isn't about looks, it's about compatibility. It doesn't mean you have a shitty personality, in fact the things you've written suggest the opposite is true- that he is a shitty person, at least to you.
