If you see some grand purpose here then please point it out to me. Life is rather meaningless and once you have the time to ruminate on it, as most NEETs do, you realize this.

Now I'm no longer a NEET and have a decent career but once you become truly self-aware about this fact, it's hard not to think about it when left alone with your thoughts.

My secret is to just keep busy... don't let your brain idle and start thinking about how everything you're doing is pointless. Keep busy and make yourself tired from work so you can get right to sleep. Find a girlfriend to occupy your attention. After all, that's what we're programmed to do, and we're happiest when we can fulfill our imperative.

Of course, that leads to a new generation who will probably realize this same thing and suffer, and then create a new generation and so on and so on... think about how many people have kids just to feel happy.

There's no meaning to existence, but keep your brain occupied so you don't think about it. That's basically my philosophy...

The thing you missed is that you can alter your experience until it is optimal, not by adding things and thoughts, but by removing them. It's hard to do, but it is the key to meaning. Takr the example of a zen master who is completely unperturbed by any experience, or an artist who loses themselves in their craft. If you try to get this through the dream you're being sold (get assets, chase, wealth and prestige etc) them you're gonna have a bad time. Your life's work is to get out of your own way by through getting in flow. Don't complain because the way you've chosen to play reality doesn't give you fulfilment. yeah, if you mull over the intrinsic lack of meaning you're not going to feel good. the point is if you are doing the right things in your life you won't feel the weight of such problems. it won't be a matter of needing to suppress your discomfort because you'll just feel ok.

Meaning is subjective, we know we were built in the way that proved to be best for passing on our genes but by mistake or by divine ordinance we were gifted the ability to make other decisions and to not only ponder on what is most important to us as individuals but to will ourselves into devoting our lives to whatever that thing might be.

Sustainability and procreation may be the driving factor of existence but with consciousness and the sheer force of human willpower it doesn't have to be our purpose. We can be enlightened and fulfilled through our own individual passions and that's nothing short of amazing.

Don't worry, when your brain is fully mature and nothing you experience is new or novel, you'll understand. Think about it, how many adults seem happy? How many of us smile regularly or enjoy things? Why do so many get hooked on drugs or become alcoholics?

Life sucks for almost everyone. Very very few people live a satisfying, happy life. You'll figure it out. Just keep your brain busy, that's the best advice. Never let yourself become a NEET like the sad porn-addicted people here. The happiest people are busy people who don't have time to think about how unfulfilling and shitty life is.

you are right about that, its just so hard to find that one thing you are passionate about you are willing to make your life purpose of, and once you realize that in itself life doesnt realy have a meaning it is realy hard to get into that mindset, for me that is. Sometimes i feel like wow this is somethig i realy enjoy but after i while i realize its all just crap and is just something i talked myself into to feel better about being alive

You're right of course, removing those thoughts has always been a preoccupation but once you understand something that's truth, it's so difficult to get it out of your brain. I can lose myself in something and not feel the weight of that truth for a time, but it doesn't make it untrue. I'm just ignoring it. Sometimes I can go weeks or months but if I've got downtime with nothing to do, there comes the realization that life and its struggles are pointless and killing myself now would just be the fastest way to get it over with (of course my survival instinct prevents the action). I matter no more or less than any of my ancestors who faced the same struggles, lived, reproduced and died and are no longer remembered. Just part of the soil now, like I will be. And in 100 years everyone who knew me will be dead as well. So my existence meant what? No different than them or you or anyone who has ever existed, save for a few notable people in the history books. Life means about nothing.

i have been trying to keep myself occupied but it has lead me to be somewhat selfdestructive, i tried to find my way of escapism in games and movies but after a while you dont enjoy those anymore, than i went to alcohol which was alright but sometimes you find yourself falling in a black hole and existential crisis while you drink, and finaly i went to drugs which just made me lose my mind and made me feel so good for a while, the problem is the day after.

I don't think a longer or infinite lifespan would add meaning. This brief flash of life being all we have is what gives it a beautiful fragility. I think if you get in flow with yourselves it becomes easy to see there is value in ways of living that free yourself even though we all slip back into unity evebtually. I think of it like a peaceful sleep at the end of a long day. Would you really want the day to last forever? If you can't perceive being dead before you die, and after you die there's no fixed self to observe being dead, our lives are functionally infinite within our frame of perception, only you know that the play doesn't last forever and you'll get to rest.

Yeah man video games was it for me. I never got into alcohol or drugs because I've seen it absolutely fuck the lives of my friends and family and never wanted to touch the stuff. My best friend in high school turned into a junkie and died at 23, alone, and his junkie friends looted his shit and left his body without telling anyone. Most I've done is socially drink a beer or two and smoke weed a couple times. I'll never touch the harder shit, no matter what, because I know in the long run it only makes everything worse.

But I wasted so much time escaping into video games and porn as a NEET, so many years I'll never get back and it makes me upset to think about it. But, at least my body is intact unlike if I had delved into substance abuse.
