Well punching bags and boxing gloves cost money and youtube tutorials cost energy and attention span, all of which I am currently low on. I want to know if you can actually get tough boxing alone and if you'd need to join a boxing club.

Look it won't make you a pro-boxer but it'll certainly be better than doing nothing. If you're a stick figure though, then it doesn't matter how well you punch it'll be pretty worthless.

I've done boxing for a few years. Really calm when I spar, but a few months back I got into a fight walking home one night and I fucking panicked, really made me scared even though I had half a foot and 30lbs on the guy, not to mention I could box. So trust me, you'll still be a wimp, just one who can punch a little better.

Being tough and being a wimp is a state of mind.
Tough guys can be turned into wimps and wimps can at least pretend to be tough.

If by tough you mean "Can win fights, know how to fight, etc" then the only way you'll ever get that is by getting into actual fights. But unless you live in some dogshit city where that's common, preparing yourself by learning the basics of self defence and striking are all you'll really need.

Look, you seem like you're looking for an excuse not to do it. All I can say it's good exercise, and YouTube is a surprisingly good way to learn the basics. They won't make you Klitschko but you'll be better off for it.

When I spar against bigger guys the fight stops if I go down, and there's people around to help.

No. You will become a fighter that looks like a wimp. People will still mess with you. You want to do bodybuilding. That way youll still be a wimp inside but people will respect you (until you open your mouth and start sperging)
