That's not exactly true. I started dressing like OP's pic for my new office job. There's a few ways you can do it. You can just wear cheap clothes and look good enough or you can take extra care of styles and colors.

I spent close to 1000 on new clothes for work as opposed to 100 when I just started.

I have a pair of brown and black dress slippers. A pair of brown and black normal shoelace having dress shoes (4 total that I switch with). I also started playing around with colors of shirts and pants. My favorite is a blue shirt with Kakhi pants. Truth is no one is going to blame you for not wearing expensive and nice looking clothes as opposed to cheaper alternatives. But they make the difference on what impressions you make when dressing up. 20$ Collared shirts don't cut it usually but cheap slacks can if they are the right colors. Having a 50-100 dollar shirt makes all the difference. It's what the leadership level wears when they aren't in suits. Also get belts to match your shoe colors. I also had some cheap robot wireframe glasses bscore but now I wear ray bans. Truth is the clothes are uncomfortable and when I don't have to, I don't wear them. But going out to lunches and dinners during or after work I feel a lot more confident when out on the town and people I know well or are acquanted with usually stop to compliment my clothes. (Even though they aren't far in the expensive tier 60-100 dollar shoes [may need to get some higher quality ones since i cheaped out and the leather is getting creased], 20-35 $ slacks in various colors, complimenting shirt which is 30-80 dollars depending from which store it's from, 20 dollar belt [may need one with a better buckle soon since i cheaped on this] and 400$ glasses that I take good care of). I'm thinking about incorporating a watch but I think I can go without it. Maybe a smart/Apple Watch.

However note when I'm not working I wear t shirts and shorts/sweats and I am in my underwear when at home

Anyway, if you're ugly as fuck, you should actually avoid the nicest clothing, as they'll just bring more attention to your ugly features.

Sometimes, a brand will have tigher fits or looser fits, so if you just buy the same size as usual it'll not fit.
