I'm about to do another kind of martial arts but I'm really nervous. It's ninpo, which is a traditional Japanese martial art that ninjutsu is a section of, and my training will involve rolling, blocking, punching, dodging and sword training. I went before for a few weeks and liked it but I'm going to get serious into it now. How much training will it take for me to get good? I've heard that generally after 2 months of martial arts training you can apply the skills you've learned to real fights, is this true?

I already train for another martial art in a dojo.
I have no interest towards said sport.
My funds are limited.
My time is limited.
I do not wish to put this over other tasks such as college classes.

Enough for you anon or should I go on?
>>
>>35838623
Well, not all martial arts are created equal. Sometimes it will take more and some will take less. BJJ is good for real fights because you will have drilled the moves over and over in live sparring. Krav Maga is too dangerous to try live, so there are more nerves that will need to be overcome when you actually want to use it. I'm not convinced that you can use anything outside of boxing, judo, BJJ, muay thai/kick boxing outside of a dojo and expect to win.

Good is a relative term. As far as making solid progress, you should do anything at least 3 times a week. I wouldn't go around look for a fight (period) for at least multiple years after you start.

Gotta say OP knows what he's talkin about. I do BJJ, Muay Thai and MMA and starting it all made me more confident in general. I'm not a fucking behemoth (about 5'6") but I played a fair bit of rugby and the guys I'm able to take on are definitely a good 30 lbs heavier than me.

BJJ is also surprisingly useful in a real fight. Do the right thing you lazy assholes and learn to defend yourselves.

Some guy who relied heavily on that shit came to try sparring at an open mat session with some of us guys who do BJJ.

I'm not exactly an expert in BJJ (fairly new) but this guy came in talking about how much experience he had and how great he was and he didn't last 40 seconds. Worthless.
>>
>>35838174
It's literally the normiest combat sport next to boxing.

Ever since this last decade when the UFC became mainstream, everyone was suddenly a BJJ expert and everyone flocked to martial arts gyms to train in BJJ.

>>35838817
>>35838623

Absolutely not, BJJ is a meme sport. You win by hugging someone on the floor for 15 minutes. It's great in the UFC and MMA, but those are sports.

You should still learn basic takedowns, throws and takedown defenses, but don't roll around on the floor like a retard which is what BJJ teaches.

Japanese Ju Jutsu, on the other hand is useful in real fights. BJJ is just a sport version of JJJ. When the Brazilians started teaching Ju Jutsu to themselves from Japanese immigrant they removed the striking techniques that targeted vital areas as well as the use of small weapons.

Just because NEETs are clever enough to dodge the rat race that is wageucking doesn't mean that they're unable to find the discipline to engage in the arts. Be it instruments, martial arts, or the culinary arts, a NEET will find that the ample amount of time that they have can serve them better than the precious weekend that the wagie strives for during the entire exhausting week.

I live in Japan and I train in mixed martial arts.

I have never seen a Japanese Jujutsu practitioner that could actually fight and not just do kata. Not talking shit on the art. I just haven't seen it. Maybe all the "masters" are all too old or dead, but I haven't seen it in the scene here.

The best grapplers I've seen are always wrestlers and brazilian jujutsu guys or judoka

It's a great grappling form. It teaches you an aggressive top game focusing on wrestling while also possessing a myriad of submission locks similar to brazilian jujutsu.

>>35839458
I'm training it in Osaka, but there are places to learn it outside of Japan too. Erik Paulson does shit in the US iirc.

The art itself originated in Europe, so i don't know why it's only nips who know it now.

>"omg anon look! I have le eye of le tiger! xD" - Girl who's done karate for 4 years
>"Haha, look at anon, he doesn't know how to kick or punch!" - Dudebro who does kickboxing

If you are against one person, BJJ is effective because 95% of fights go to the ground or have a takedown in some capacity. If you're against more than one person or they have a weapon, you were cucked from the beginning. PROTIP: It's easy to punch someone from a dominant position

BJJ

>Easier to find competitions
>Much more technique to learn
>>
>>35839875
Both are different.

BJJ has a stronger emphasis on taking your opponent down to the ground with you, and ground techniques.

Judo on the other hand is more about throwing your opponent to the ground, and staying on your feet.

If you want to be a complete grappler, ideally take both.

>>35839786
It depends on what you want out of martial arts, anon.

Kendo, Kyudo, Iaido, dozens of styles of Karate, Judo, the sky's the limit.

I would personally recommend Judo and Kyokushin karate as well as Kyudo. Kyudo is archery mixed with meditation. Kyokushin karate is full-contact sparring with no protection. Judo is incredibly popular and useful.

>What the FUCK is catch wrestling?
Not the anon you're asking but catch wrestling is a grappling style that originated in Britain. It's very similar to BJJ, but is more wrestling oriented and has a shit load of footlocks and leg locks, which they're known for.

Ken Shamrock, Kazushi Sakuraba, Josh Barnett, shinya aoki are some examples of famous catch wrestlers.

It's almost a dead art with very few people teaching it, except in Japan, where it's popular for some reason

Whatever you say, buddy. You'd get wrecked by a 5'5 guy who knows what he's doing.

You just need to survive the first 3 months. At that point everybody, including the body builder who "just wants to dominate people," will struggle to understand how much they don't know.

I am aware of this yet my fear stops me from fixing this

Three months sounds like a lot when the idea of even stepping in the door is daunting

Do you have another autistic friend that you could do it with? They might have you two work together and have an instructor only come by to correct you.

You could wait outside for a class to end and, as they're coming out, ask one of the blue or purple belts to introduce you to the academy.

The closest I got is my friend whos going to college soon and is saving for a car, probably has more important things to worry about than making me feel less autistic doing bjj

I'll tell you this: it's not exactly abnormal to be afraid to go into a martial arts academy. If you explain to him that you want to take one free class and you want him to join you, I bet he'd consider it. It'd probably be more interesting than what you two normally do and he might just think of it like a one-off thing like going to the movies. Being concerned about you, I think that after one or two classes you might just enjoy it.

If it is something that you connect with quickly, it has the power to transform your life.

Gotta bookmark this thread, OP. Thanks for posting, because I attended three trial-sessions in BJJ and had a blast with it. I didn't sign up though because my school schedule was almost 40 hours a week, so I had to choose between BJJ or videogames. So I went with what I was always passionate about. Now that my vidya knowledge is on a high level I'm thinking about to join BJJ training, thanks to your thread.

I also had a trial session in JJJ, and it had some noice looking counter techniques; but c'mon, who can pull that shit off against a brute or if you're completely shocked in a fight or flight moment?

What I really appreciated about BJJ is how you can always get out of a tight spot and acquire dominance in a hostile situation. Since my miserable life tought me to be overly defensive in my thinking, BJJ would be a perfect valve for it.

Again: appreciate your thread, promoting Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. As a skinny guy it is really useful, since the correct technique makes weight meaningless.

Do they allow knees in MMA? I used to do Sambo (technically MMA submissions but that's an uninteresting story) before my gym closed. There's an MMA gym very close to me, but I really liked the style I did beforehand. By knees I mean pivoting and pressing painful areas with them. I also hope they allow you to attack the legs.

Ty man! I'm passionate about shitposting like telling people to slit their own throat if they do Krav Maga. They don't like that very much on shitddit

You know I want you to try it, right? I'll think of a reason you could and you'll think of a reason you can't. I'm an anonymous poster on an Iraqi Mancala cheat code board though, I'll never be able to overcome your mind.

I want you to just listen to this - they'll have more to say than I ever could. They're reaching out for you and they'll be your advocates. I hope you'll do SOMETHING, you know? You know how all these people on r9k are? I hope you do something.

It might depend. UFC doesn't allow knees to the head of a downed opponent (defined as stomach, back or on all fours). In a BJJ academy, you wouldn't be a guy many people wanted to roll with if it was always uncomfortable to go against you. In a grappling match, it would probably just be an advantage.

I'm an occasional lurker on plebbit and it doesn't surprise me. Some threads and boards are overly-sensitive, just like most assholes in real life.

Some boards here are infested with total faggots though, getting a total FB/plebbit/YT vibe again.
