I'm telling this as someone who wastes 6 years on computer sciences on college, started getting jobs in the field 2 years ago and in that time learned about 50,000,000 more actually useful skills that way than I ever did in college.

If you want to become a doctor or even professor in a STEM field, I'm afraid you're left with no option.
