Hedonism is all fine and dandy until you realize it's merely short-lived happiness and in the long term will just depress you even more. It's garbage-tier philosophy and so is nihilism. You have to at least pretend to think that there's intrinsic meaning in the world or you're setting yourself up for failure.

Because the alternative, nihilism, is so much worse. It doesn't do good things for your head when you go around all day believing that it's all for nothing. Even if there is no God and it is in fact all for nothing, it's better to at least believe that the things that you do matter.

There's a difference between the philosophy of nihilism and circumstantial nihilism brought upon by depression or other mental illness. Chances are if somebody views nihilism as a legitimate philosophy then they're in a pretty bad state of mind already. In my opinion people just use it to justify their own actions and take no moral responsibility because "kek life is a meme".
