I live in the fucking Netherlands and even here everyone and his mother has been using 4chan since 2005.
It was always mainstream.

I've never used Reddit, I have seen some people browse it but that UI is a clusterfuck.

I've been using both Reddit and 4chan for a decade. There was always substantial crossover.
