they hurt like a bitch but they go away eventually. they can pop up for any number of reasons but stress is a pretty common trigger. i am genetically predisposed to these things so i know the deal.

the best way to handle it in my experience is to rinse with peroxyl--basically diluted hydrogen peroxide mouthwash. it's not nasty like you'd expect and it does a good job of cleaning the area and (in my experience) makes it a little less painful for a bit.

keep on rinsing and it'll eventually clear up. oral herpes (which you also probably have btw, even if you're a khv) is something that pops up outside the mouth, like lips and shit. this is something else

brush your fucking teeth also holy shit, ignoring the lingual side is a great way to get cavities

There's nothing you can do about it except just letting it heal. Avoid spicy, acidic, very hot, and "hard" foods like chips until it's gone because these can just irritate it.

Buy Orajel from your local pharmacy, the topical analgesic. You can smear it in your mouth for pain relief. It tastes bad though.

I've never heard of someone getting herpes inside their mouth, they usually get it on their lips because their relatives kissed them in their youth or whatever. So I do hope you're right about the canker sore.
