So we've got about ~20-30 years until robots take over.

If they actually create AI humanoid robots they're fucking retarded.
Humanity is fucked. We're creating superior lifeforms that will destroy us.

No scifi shit. A mechanical human would be superior in every way. No eating, drinking or shitting, just electrical or nuclear power. No need for sleep either. Extremely efficient, unemotional brain. Unselfish and perfectly capable of immediately working together as a hivemind for a singular goal.

They'd fuck humanity over immediately.

Define "smarter than humans"
There are robots that are better than humans at many tasks already, and probably robots for any task that can beat some subset of humans.
Take AlphaGo as an example of the first case. The nerds it crushed aren't actually good at anything but Go. Does that mean AG is smarter than them, and by extension all of us?

Sci-fi says the robots have to fight us to demonstrate their intelligence, but there's an certianly an argument that it's a dumb metric

robots are being created to improve our corporate overlords bottom dollar. the workforce is going to be decimated after self-driving cars are put into work and robotic kiosks serve customers at mcdonalds.

Your retarded ideals and cognitive biases are showing

AI won't reach the stage you idealize unless we hold its hand every step of the way, and stop humans who want to use it for evil or profit from doing so. We're supposed to invest billions to bring it from mostly useless to savior of humanity.

Immigrants, meanwhile, must be model citizens before europe can give them anything. And even then they're still niggers.

Maybe? I'm in uni for business and japanese (not my choice). And my thought and consensus between my teacher (native japanese) and guest speakers is that due to japanese being a largely interpretive language and the fact that the japanese have a hardon for tradition and formality, live translation will be a thing for quite a while. And by the time it replaces us AI and robotics will have to have advanced to a point where UBI is a thing and I can just buy a robot waifu and live in comfort.

My job has already been taken over by robots.

I worked in a warehouse for a very large online retail giant. The warehouse I worked at is all-human, but there are other warehouses in the immediate area that are robotic with very few human staff. Lately they've been laying off people from my warehouse, me included, because they've been redirecting all the online sales traffic through the robotic site. All the people left working at my old warehouse are just shipping the items from their storage to the robotic warehouse so that they can process them over there.

The first people to be fired in lieu of robot workers are going to be fucking fucked because, like me, there will be no jobs left in the area for them, and there still isn't UBI.

>law would be easy to roboticize
Absolutely not. Every case is different, and law continuously changes with every small thing that happens society.

Also robots have no clue on how society works and how to make new laws, since they have no emotions.

Law is one of the safest bets for the future imo.
>>
>>35776729

>>

The goal of jurisprudence is NOT to be 'neutral'.
If you think robots can take over law, you obviously know nothing about law. Jurisprudence is all about interpretation of rules on specific cases. This interpretation cannot be done by robots since they do not have to ability to understand human emotions.

I'm in software engineering.

I'm safe until software engineering gets its shit together or we get a true, hard AI. Right now the focus is on "AI making programs" without any real categorization of what goes into a program. Right now, as soon as a concept in programming becomes mature enough that the levels of abstraction surrounding it approach a level that can be used for full atomization, automation, and analysis, some genius comes in and shits out a new shiny idea that causes a paradigm shift and keeps us from automating our own jobs out of existence. I really question if it's intentional or if some programmers really believe that programming can be automated by brute force.
>>
>>35778485

>I'm in software engineering.

Lots of dev work today can eventually be automated. Heck, that's basically the name of the game. You automate yourself away. Used to be you had to punch holes in cards and that took rooms full of people to do.
>>
>>35778504

I'm genuinely fucking scared right now. What is humanity doing? Why on earth are scientists creating beings that are clearly superior to humans in every way? The quality of life for most people will go down since they won't be able to get a job that can't be done by a robot. That is the best case scenario. What if the machines enslave humanity?
>>
>>35779872

"...laws will continue to require humans to verify its legitimacy."

I don't know about that. I have regularly experienced code being violated by the corruption of people, and then go unenforced, ignored. At least a machine would not dismiss these because it would seem like too much trouble, or convinced by the ideas behind some unproven policy; which really just boils down to a belief someone(s) has that they want to put upon others.

I lived in a building once where the property manager not only illegally evicted an autistic person and their very elderly relative, but physically removed them from their domicile against their will. I reported it not long after, and was told it was being handled. I kept up with looking into it, but nothing really happened to the PM except being fired, but there were other reasons that was going to happen anyway. When considering the two individuals personal state, it was pretty much kidnapping. How someone can effect something on that level without a criminal charge is very troubling.

Point is, my job is getting taken today by chinese and indian guys, who will get their job taken away by robots.

People will use the cheapest solution, it's in human nature, it's irrationnal not to do so.

First problem is more that we don't own the Robots so the owners don't need us, we're made obsolete. A roman citizen could dream of buying a slave or two one day.

Second is that our politicians are unable to think of a solution other than some utopian model where I would receive free money from the government and be a NEET all my life. I don't see that transition working in real life, as it implies the government will bully companies to feed me like the parasite I am.

>>35778485

At the moment it seems we're heading in the direction of "conselling" AI. For example, AI taking data from several reactors, keeping a theorical model of all parts making the reactors, knowing every incidents of every parts.

Should it detect a failure, it can compare it to its theoretical model and send an alert to a real (human) engineer, with details. This model built itself as time passes and the reactors are feeding the theoretical model reactors with millions of data.

An expert with such a tool is as different from an expert with pen and paper as a knight in armor against a peasant, but there's still a human in this armor.

Warehouse workers on the other hand will get massively replaced by robots: when a robot replaces a worker, it actually replaces 3 shifts, plus the temporary worker hired here and there when someone is sick/on leave.
