Finding a job is hard enough already even without past criminal history. I have a 4 year degree in accounting with about a year and a half experience on the job. Most people don't want to pay me more than a couple dollars above minimum wage, and they have a myriad of unreasonable experience expectations for even the lowest accounting jobs.

Now imagine that you have a criminal history. You are done. Rehabilitated or not. The job market is too over saturated in way too many areas. It comes down to employers having too many options, and dozens of them better than a potential criminal.
