I got 272. I'm sure it's about average. I need to get back into reading again, but it's been a while since I've found something I've wanted to read.
>>
>>35695972
if i remeber 300 is the average, i had something slightly above that in the past, but i think my understanding is bad because i have to go back and read again what i was reading a lot of times.
>>
>>35695836
I got 347, but this seems kind of dumb to begin with. This is obviously going to vary based on the text you're reading and how much effort you're putting into absorbing the information. If you're reading fucking Finnegans Wake or some shit you're going to have to read a lot slower than if you were reading a YA novel.
>>
>>35695836
is that girl shopped in
everything around her is huge
>>
>>35696111
anyone read huckleberry finn, is that what you read?
>>
>>35696101
I found another test with a comprehension quiz towards the end and got 300 wpm with 90% comprehension. It puts the average at 200 wpm and 60% comprehension.

>>35696111
Obviously there are many factors at play and obviously this is just something done for fun and for kicks by people wasting time on the internet like ourselves.
>>
844 words per minute, I was always a pretty fast reader.
>>
>>35695836
506. I don't read books ever, though I do read quite a few things on the internet.
>>
>>35696280
you're really smart, do you want an applause?
>>35696282
quite impressive
>>
Got 701 are we supposed to be reading at a normal pace or speed reading?

Fug.
I always knew I suck at reading. Words get mixed up whenever I try to read at a normal pace so I find myself re-reading sentences.
>>
>>35696432
If you read visually I think its not that hard to get close to 1k. I think most people actually sound out words in their heads, its very odd.
>>
249 reading out loud with 379 reading in my head. The recording thing messed me up so I wasn't sure if I had to talk or not, so I did it twice
>>
>>35696432
>speed reading
do you mean going fast or use the speed reading technique? cause in the last case you can't bc is bulltshit. the pace that you want till you understand. test yourself again, nobody's gonna believe you.
>>
528. Although I'm sure it would be slower if i knew there was a quiz or something to make sure it was read properly.
>>
>>35696447
I always re-read a lot too, sometimes entire passages or pages.
It's definitely better to understand what you're reading than get it done in half the time or whatever

this is from reading as fast as i could while still understanding most of what i was reading.
if i actually had to read at a regular pace to absorb all the information properly it would be a lot smaller.
bow down before me wordlets
>>
507, but i'm a dumbass and had difficulty reading huckleberry finn because i'm not used to the writing style.
>>
441 wpm. Pretty fast even if it is skimming. I watch tv with subtitles on regardless on the language so I can have the volume down.

333.

I have this problem where-in I tend to read a portion of words, but stumble, even though in my head I read them all just fine. This leads to me second guessing myself mid sentence, and re-reading the entire sentence, or worst case scenario I'll finish the sentence only to start it all over again.

Anybody else have this problem?
>>
>>35695836
453 on Alice. It was hard to read though because some words werelike this which made it a bit moredifficult to read atadecent pace. Fucking formatting.

241. i'm kind of a slow reader but there were also a lot of missing spaces and words running together that caused me to pause.

There's a difference between reading to get a basic comprehension and reading to really READ.

When I read the Dracula example, I tried to read it and envision the narrator talking in my head. I tried to envision the things he was talking about, the Carpathian mountains, the races of people and their general locations, etc.

And I got a score of 182.

I could have gone WAY faster and still gotten 80% of it, but that's no way to truly enjoy text.
>>
faster than i expected to be honest i thought i was slower

I got 475, but I'd probably read a little more slowly if I wasn't being tested.

The passage was all fucked by the way, certain words were stuck together and some were all caps. Not sure if that's deliberate to throw you off or something...

Chose Alice in Wonderland btw

468 and i think i comprehended the text very well. the thing is it should test how well you comprehended it too so they know you're not just scan reading but actually understanding it or something.

in school we did state meme tests when we were in 7th grade i remember my teacher pulling me aside and saying i was like 99% percentile with reading score in my state she was very proud of me. here's the thing that was weird about me academically i was very mediocre at math/science/english but was a really good reader. at my school we took tests that were like this we had to read a book then after we finished we be quizzed on like 20 questsion from the book on a computer program called accelerated reader or AR. funnily enough by the 3rd grade i was reading at a 12th grade level meaning techincally almost a lot of the books in the library were not challenging enough to me, technically speaking. it never bothered me because this was the time i discovered halo 2 for xbox and started gaming so i'd much preferred to be doing that then reading at home.

289 wpm. I have a habit of reading things out loud in my head, like I need to make my own narration.

One thing that helped me in the past was limiting your eye movements across. Instead of gradually scrolling your gaze across the page, make quick and snappy movements and you'll have a faster time getting through it.

Same
Ororororororoorororoororroororooorororoo
>>
most of english is just fluff. you can skip over 50% of the words and still get a decent grasp of what the sentence means.
at least, this is what I do.

for example
>you can skip over 50% of the words and still get a decent grasp of what the sentence means.
could be simplified to
>skip 50% words still grasp what sentence means

it obviously sounds like gibberish if you read it aloud, but you can still garner a fairly similar understanding of the meaning behind the writing from just those words alone.
>>
>>35698165
How I do it is I just sort of run my eyes over the line and chunks at a time (I notice the chunks center around key words)

I have near perfect comprehension (remembering)

But I notice it makes no sense while I'm reading, only a w seconds after my mind processes all the stuff my eyes glided over.

Key to fast reading is letting your subconscious do all the processing and just use your normal conscious to get the words into your head
>>
>>35698197
This too

Oororororoorooroor
>>35698207
>>
>>35698045

I certainly subvocalize to some extent, more so on words that provide context / meaning for a sentence, but not for every word. I don't think you could read at 690 WPM and subvocalize each and every word.

520 WPM, The redneck wording threw me for a loop though.

I got about 880 WPM and 82% comprehension on the readingsoft.com one too.

I also type at about 100 WPM without looking at the keyboard.
