Here's some solid tips

Turning the wheel right makes the car go right
Turning the wheel left makes the car go left
You turn the key away from you to turn on the car.
Then, with your foot on the break you put in in drive from park (or reverse if you are backing up)
When you want to move forward press on the gas gently and gradually move up to your desired speed. When your ready to stop press the brakes.

If you are turning use the corresponding turn signal with the direction you wish to go. If you are turning right at a red light or stop sign make sure to yield to oncoming traffic same if you wish to change lanes.

my driving instructor once forced me to do a two hour lesson, where driving rules weren't properly enforced, for example not stopping completely at every stop sign, but still looking out for cars and making sure it's still fine to drive through, or actually driving on the fast lanes and not being constantly stuck on the slow lane, quick three point turns in the middle of traffic, etc...stuff you'd end up doing if you really were to drive on your own.

if you get the chance to drive "realistically", either with your instructor or friend (ie, mother), then go for it. it helped me more than the shitty driving lessons themselves.

If you know where the driving test will be given, go over there and drive.

I took my son for the test. He was the third kid I took there and also got my license there so I really knew the route. Told him what the instructor would ask (speed limit, etc...), where he would drive for the three-point turn and backing up) and the "gotcha" stop signs.

Put him through it about 5 times and he passed no problem.

Of course mo other son should have failed miserably but he charmed the female tester and passed. His driving record proves this.
