In this Age of Information, what wonders are there left to pursue?

Everything has become commercialised and digitized. Nothing is pure wonder. Everything can be reduced to its core, and therefore rendered soulless. The world is mechanical now, nothing is left to be discovered, philosophy stagnated decades ago, and exciting individualism has become so difficult to obtain that people mutilate themselves or become part of quasi-cults in order to not feel irrelevant.

I honestly feel like the only way to fix this is to open up a new frontier. We need something like faster than light travel.

Go up young man, go up.

Mars awaits.

We're still at least 10 years off from the first colonists, and then 10 more years for anything resembling a colony in need of mediocre minds.

By then I'd be 44 years old.
>>

what you do is go back instead of forward. why do you need a new frontier when you can try building your own homestead like in the 1800s? other people might have explored the terrain and done it a long time ago, but this is the farthest you can get from a mechanical, soulless lifestyle. i think that if you really wanted an adventure, something that allowed you to feel free, you could have it. having to struggle for your life makes it feel like it means something. having everything right in front of you, conceived, produced and delivered by other people makes it feel like it's all meaningless.

the other day i saw a commercial for some sort of cleaning wand that allows you to clean the floor and ceiling without having to bend or stretch. this is life at it's most meaningless.

Never too soon to start training and to start building your skills. Most astronauts are about 45, and given the conditions of living on a harsh world I'd rather slit my youth here anyway, and then go off to die hero rather than die alone in my apartment in Nebraska.

>nothing is left to be discovered
Literally isn't even close to being true.

There are still many questions in the field of physics, always stuff to discover in mathematics, AI is still a field that is in its infancy, we're only JUST seeing advancements in genetic engineering, and biological technology is also still in its infancy. And these are only the ones off the top of my head!

In fact, anon, you should be grateful, because this Age of Information has left you the ability to learn all of these things without having to go to school, something that is incomprehensibly expensive. This is THE time period to become an autodidactic polymath. (Our culture doesn't encourage autodidacticism or polymathism, of course, so this isn't very popular now. But we are more set up for this now than in any age prior.)

space anon, we take to the stars

The ocean anon you should explore the ocean.

It's just a floating trash sewage cesspool.

Nothing to discover there except waves of floating plastic bits and fish full of Mercury.

Stay out of the ocean, they've suffered enough.

We're in a golden age of imagination.

Endless fiction, go anywhere, be anything, no constraints.

You're not bound to reality any more.

Why could I not have been born 200 years in the past or 200 years in the future?
Everything right now is like technology in its puberty state.

By being the provider of the information. It has to come from somewhere, correct?

Why could I not have been born 500 years in the past or 500 years in the future?*

Fixed.

So what, we just bring back hardship and struggle, and that will solve our existentialist problems?

No, we'd be exchanging one discomfort for another--the emptiness of being for its anxiety.

Literally none of those are going to yield earth-shattering revelations that validate the expenditure

Pursue information itself. There is something beautiful about reading up on so much information to the point where you can draw bizarre connections that you never would expect.

>Everything can be reduced to its core, and therefore rendered soulless.

Thats the stupidest thing I've read today, and I started the morning browsing /v/.

Anyways, space is the answer, but since we are not capable of exploring it with any ease yet then maybe the inner space, the inner mind, especially lucid dreaming and altered states of consciousness (without drugs).

The outer world of space and the inner world of the mind are places where wonder abounds they're just harder to reach.

I think we need to ban technology and start from the ground up again.

Maybe you should just try not to be a condescending douche.
I know how fireworks work, doesn't mean they're any less pretty to watch when there is a show of them.

exploring space is the dumbest shit ever. Who cares what pluto is like? I guarantee you you have to stay jam packed inside a tight little container to visit it. FTL is and will always be impossible.

>Age of Information
Then go learn and invent. Make the flying car/hoverboard/food replicator/other future technology.
>>
>>35632111
That's why we have books, movies, videogames and other forms of escapism.

I definitely recommend videogames. The interactivity makes it the superior escapist media.
There are no wonders in the real world, but there are strange and interesting worlds of magic, monsters and mystery to play through.
>>
>>35635996
To build a food replicator, first you must invent a matter converter. You need a machine to convert matter into energy and then back into matter. Without setting fire to anything.
