I think during the soviet era in those countries there was the first full integration of women in the society. Although the couldn't vote, well nobody could, they could do everything a man could do, and had the same duties to fullfill, like they couldn't stop working only because they had a child home.
Only in some instances they had priviliges like a long pregnancy leave. I think it was 6+ months, after working in the pregnant state proved to dangerous for the child and mothers health
