parents letting their kids play videogames is just as negligent as letting them do drugs
>>35552299
>"better hide the fantasy worlds from our kids!"
>"Yeah, wouldn't want them realizing that real life is pretty pointless and mostly sucks!"
This never works.
>>35552299
I agree. Parents should be pushing their children to exercise, read, write, and exploring the real world. Most of this boards users are victims of poor parenting and unhealthy lifestyles.
>>35552367
Fictions worlds are just absurd, there's reality. No more.
>>35552367
fugg, unexpected red pills are the worst
>>35552438
Doing this results in one of two things happening. Either it works, and the kid internalizes hard work and ambition, or it backfires, and you find out some time in college that the kid has no intrinsic motivation and has only been doing all that shit because you forced him to, and will be a failure without someone running his life for him.
When I was the same age as most of /r9k/, parents (at least the ones I knew) said the same thing about kids watching TV. And before that, they said the same about reading comic books.

my parents kept thinking I'm addicted to the internet ever since I was 12yo, so as punishment they took PC away from me, it's laughable, I'm scrawny weak ugly manlet, what am I supposed to be doing for fun, people can't stand the sight of me, sports are not an option, so when they took away my PC I just read fantasy books or books about roman empire or just daydreamed and they thought it's hard for me to quit gaming lmao
>>35552299
Because you faggots have no self control and are all manchildren.
Parents let me play video games growing up. I can't stand to play more than an hour if I ever even bother picking up a controller. Once you hit 15-16, it becomes childish and mundane.
>>35552299
Video games are fine in moderation. If I was a parent, though, I'd never let my kids play games the way that I did growing up.
Fucking torpedoed my middle and high school years.
>>35552438
>Most of this boards users are victims
Yup. That pretty much explains the complex of this board. Nothing is their fault.
>>35552468
This is what happened to me because of my parents them dubs don't lie. Although I've sort of discovered new meaning via fitness and being in the army. The army is pretty good for a guy like me who grew up being controlled and told what to do 24/7.
>>35552631
>if I ever even bother picking up a controller.
>this guy think console games are real games
>>35552670
PS I thought the post had digits 99 that's why I said dubs my mistake.

Nah, the extreme opposite is just as bad.
I was raised without video games and was constantly told that video games are are the devil and they'll make me retarded even though all my neighbors and cousins and classmates had video games.
So what happened?
By the time I was 20 years old and in college I bought my own computer and gaming consoles and my very first video games and holy fucking shit. I dropped out of college and eventually got fired from my wagecuck job and all I wanted to do day and night was play video games because I never experienced it as a kid and was never taught self-control and moderation.
It's like those extremely religious kids who grow up without bedroom doors and have to sleep with with their hands over their covers because touching one's self is a sin and then they grow up to have the most fucked fetishes and warped sexuality ever. Or those conservative dudes who stay away from any and all drugs until they fuck up their backs on day and get a prescription for some opioids and it's the best thing ever and then they end up addicted to those.
Also because of that I never learned how to make friends properly. Every kid I ever hung out with until I was lie 18 was just an excuse for me to get to play his video games for even just a few minutes on weekends.
Moderation, and raise your god damn kids,
>>35552673
>He subscribes to PC vs console elitism
>He plays video games
You truly are a lost cause
>>35552735
>he watches television
>he reads non fiction
>he plays recreational sports while not trying to be a professional athlete.
>>35552565
Same lol, but when I started reading I couldn't stop, finished the library fantasy section in a year, then they started confiscating my books telling me to get a life
>>35552765
>he thinks everyone must be a loser like he is so that validates his horrendous choice of "hobbies"
>>35552656
Are you trying to say that all of my shortcomings that came as a result of my own decision to isolate myself from society are my own fault? That's absurd, and you're wrong
Counter:
I was forced to go outside and play, forced to play sports, and pushed to socialize with people... I hated every second of it and do not look back at that part of my youth fondly. I was happy alone playing video games, on the computer, or drawing in my room.
It is completely subjective.
>>35552871
>not getting the point
what im saying is have pointless recreational activites are not a bad thing as long as they dont consume your responsibilities
Watching tv all day is just as bad as playing vidya all day.
>>35553037
I'm not disagreeing with you. OP is just a moron with no self control ready to blame everyone for his problems.
>>35553072
ehh, idk
obviously when your an adult you have self control and can make yourself what you want.
But saying he was put in a bad situation by his parents isn't wrong.
So its not his fault where he started, its his fault that hes stuck here.
>>35553108
It's a stupid activity to pass the time and nothing more. Playing video games isn't bad, it's playing them excessively and letting it consume all your spare time is when it's bad.
The parents are at fault for not enforcing self discipline, not for letting him play video games in the first place.
>>35553331
>The parents are at fault for not enforcing self discipline, not for letting him play video games in the first place.
i think the parents should teach such an essential skill in life such as self discipline.
i mean parents need to raise little brats into functioning humans, and whats more universal skill like self discipline.
>>35553664
Most parents these days only became parents because they lacked the self-discipline to prepare financially for having a family, or to buy a box of condoms. The little brats are the parents.
>>35552299
in all honesty though, video games should be turned in and destroyed once a child is diagnosed with a certain disorder
take it from someone who has done extensive research of drugs.
computer/internet/online games is one hell of a dissociative drug.
don't feel guilty about it though, i give no fucks.
