Has college infantilized the American youth? It baffles me how

as life spans have lengthened so has youth, it's nothing to worry about. nobody is considered an adult until like 35 these days.

I've been think about this a bit lately and at first I thought that other people were just immature because their parents provided for them. However, I'm starting to think that it's actually because North American society is either hitting a wall or slowly collapsing. As a result, young people have nothing to really live for. Why bother becoming an adult if there's little chance you'll ever get a good enough job to support a family with? Sure, you could get a university degree, but at this point that's basically the bare minimum to get a slightly above minimum wage office job. I think young males don't have the same incentive to participate in society as they previously did. Most women have little to offer that they can't get from porn, video games, the Internet, etc.

I'm trying for law school, because it seems like one of the few ways I have even a chance of making enough to support a family.

We've lowered our standards way too far. We spoil our youth and many of them have never experienced an actually hard life. Even those who drop out of college end up being accommodated by their over-nurturing parents, and end up becoming leeches to society. Our culture is basically fucked, and there isn't much we can do about it.

Fraternities have been a thing for centuries

Remember reading two accounts, both from university professors - one from China, in the early 1900s, who was pissed that students would skip class and drink in the halls or dorms. Another from an Oxford profession in the 1400s or 1500s who complained about students going into town and getting drunk.

But I agree with the general gist, university just seems like high school part 2 for a lot of kids these days

The idea of adulthood mainly serves the state, you're a loser if you stay home and keep all your resources within your immediate family, but not if you find some girl to knock up and create a new family aka more workers.

You're a loser if you depend on your parents, but not if you depend on your spouse. I'm not falling for the bullshit idea that the harder your life is the more of an adult you are.
