is that before or after taxes? After 36% cut I'd be left with only $19,200. I'd instantly stash away half though not sure if I'd stash it away as cash money or put it in the bank.

Regardless that gives me $9,600 to play with.

I'd drop ~$1,000 to fix my car.
Maybe give my sister $500 to fix her car.
Use $1,000 to take my sisters to visit my brother a few states away.
Maybe buy a new GPU so we'll say thats about $500.
Stash $500 away for Christmas shopping.
New pair of jeans ~$50?
New jacket I guess ~$100

Maybe spend the rest that isn't stashed towards my fathers mortgage so I knew he wouldn't have to worry about that. Or split it towards that and charity.

what kind of loser doesn't have essentials covered? if you're living paycheck to paycheck, then spend 3-5k on services and products to make life simpler, and dump the rest into specialized training, education, and networking in a field/industry you absolutely know you can compete in. you can put a few thousand away into investments, but 30k is way too small to be useful to that kind of individual in a fund/bank.

your idea of "luxuries" aside, going once in a while somewhere, even on a train locally, might prevent you from becoming one of all these old miserable cunts who wished they could have seen more of the world. people regret not spending enough time with family and not enough time traveling the most. it doesn't necessarily have to be your thing to go anywhere, but i took the OP as "if you were given 30k what would you do." a vacation should definitely be toward the top of the list.

i like places in spain, france, japan and various random beaches. i normally end up in russia because i have family there and live pretty comfy. i've been meaning to go up to canada soon.
