Should I build a gaming pc /r9k/? It is going to cost around 2,200 dollars with everything in total. I plan on spending a lot of time playing games on it. I will be playing games in 4k 60fps. I have $25,000 in my savings account and I have no expenses at all. I Never spend any money because I am just scared and nervous to. Is this a good idea?
>>
If you're sure you'll spend a lot of time on it you might as well go through with it.
>>
>>35442511
if you feel youll get milage out of it than go ahead, just a warning, there is no thing as a future proof computer. so you will have to upgrade it agin eventually.
>>
>>35442511
>I will be playing games in 4k 60fps.

No you won't.

No it's not a good idea I have a 2000 dollar computer and I mostly shit post on it.
>>
Why do you have $25k?
Money sitting around doing nothing is wasted.
>>
>>35442540
I will be buying the new GTX 1080TI. It plays AAA games at 4k 60fps on ultra easily.
>>
Don't anon, it's fucking useless. Just think about it, you're asking us because you know yourself it's a waste of money
>>
>>35442537
I know, I think I would upgrade the graphics card in 2-3 years. That's when most people say it's a good time to do so.
>>
>>35442569
I'd suggest considering a 1440p 144hz display instead.

I definitely prefer the extra fps than the higher resolution, not sure what your preference is though.
>>
>>35442558
Money my mother gave to me.
>>
>>35442585
I've heard that is really only beneficial for FPS games. I do not plan on playing any.
>>
>>35442511
I built a computer in 2013 doe $1,200 and its lasted me till now.
It still plays pretty much any game at 60fps at max settings.
I'd say go for it. You could probably do it for cheaper though. You're going to spend the majority of your life in front of your computer so you might as well invest in it.
>>
>>35442511
if you are right in the mind, you will regret buying a "gayming pc".

i would save and buy land.
>>
>>35442511
If you play a lot of vidya you should do it. its quite fun and rewarding building a computer for the first or 41st time. just make sure that you do it properly and know what your doing.

make it first on pc part picker and ask around for suggestions for parts and compatibility. dont rush into it, pick a theme and go with that (i.e. light blue and white, black and red, etc).

sorry for that name i was pissing with some reddit namefag called "screwed". just to piss with him i changed my name to that anyway

if you have some questions feel free to ask
>>
>>35442649
Not him but can I ask you a PC hardware related question?
Is an i5 650 released in 2010 bottlenecking my GTX 970 because I'm getting poor frames and most games even at medium settings.
>>
>>35442711
Yeah most likely.
I'd recommend getting a better cpu the i7-7700K is out now and its pretty affordable but that is up too you.

Also make sure your ram isn't adding to problem having 8gb at ddr4 is kinda standard now-a-days so you should be using that.

https://pcpartpicker.com/

make a pc part picker list of current parts and like em here so i can get a better understanding
>>
>>35442649
What size monitor would you recommend for 4k? I found a nice 4k monitor for a good price but it is 27" I have heard that 32" is the sweet spot for 4k. Is this true?
>>
>>35442511
Go big or go home. Now's a great time to look into building your own PC. However, I would personally wait until the third parties make better coolers for the 1080 Ti's. Like when EVGA releases it with a Hybrid AIO cooler.

I also believe they have 4k 100+ Hz monitors now or soon. But 4k 60 fps is gorgeous as is. And you can always get two 1080 Ti's for SLI.

Don't listen to the plebs suggesting 1440p at 144hz. They are too poor to understand that bigger really is better. They're like those CRT faggots of the old days.

Trust me.
>>
>>35442799
>32"
the bigger the better i say but really its personal preference so i cant really say. but if you are gonna spend money on a new monitor make sure its the one (you) want id say measure it out on your desk so that it properly fits into your vision, if your like me i sit close to my screen so very large monitors are not great and need a medium size (28-30") just dont go wasting money on something thats not gonna last (you) 5 or so years or be outdated in a few
>>
>>35442794
Not available right now but it's
CPU: Intel i5 650 3.2 GHz clarkdale

it's not only beneficial for fps. the smoothness increases a lot when you turn around or jump in game or rotate the POV in game.
I agree with the other anon. better get a 1440p@144Hz monitor. if you still want to play in 4k buy a tv and connect it with your pc. I mean you have a shit ton of money. why not getting 2 screens?
>>
>>35442794
OP here. This is my build, the GTX 1080 will be replaced with a GTX 1080 TI when it's available, so I just picked out a 1080 that was similar in price. What do you think? It is a white modern looking build.

>>
>>35442887
yead i'd say invest in a new motherboard, cpu, cpu cooler (optional as you might already have one) and ddr4 ram 2x8
Your gpu is still good and could last your 2 or so years depending on how long you've had the thing, so yeah your specs need some updating.

also if i could have the type of gpu that would be great

I see. It's EVGA. Tbh I wanna get more milage out of it than two years. I've had it for only one. I'm ok with not getting 60 on max but I'm getting low fucking frames on medium in many games like mafia 3 and Conan on low settings. At first I thought maybe some of the games were just poorly optimized but I'm noticing it all tol often.

How long until 6 cores become mainstream? Im torn between Ryzen 1700x, 1800x, 7700k and 6800k. The one im most likely going to get is either 1700x or 7700k. I do plan on doing video editing and programming, but knowing me there is a good chance ill never go through with it and end up using it for games only. I want to use the system to max out games at AT LEAST 1440p @ 60fps for 4 years, and plan to be able to hit a smooth 1440p @ 144fps in the first two years. The GPU i plan on getting is GTX 1080 Ti.

Anyone any advice? What would you do? Are the 8 cores of Ryzen too much? Is the 6800k not a good idea because of its shit overclocking? Would the 7700ks cores be enough for the next 4 years?
>>
don't do it because games have sucked for years and it's only getting worse.
>>
>>35442711
with 1156 socket, you are basically fucked - you will need to buy a new motherboard + ram to get some upgrade.
I don't know where you are from, so you will have to find a place to buy it yourself, but a very good upgrade is:
- Motherboard with 1151 socket and Z170 / Z270 chipset
- Intel i5-6600k
- 1x 8GB DDR4 RAM stick
Then just overclock the CPU to ~4.5GHz, which will give you enough power to last a few years without bottlenecking anything.
This obviously also depends on your power supply - if you have some crappy 350W one, replace motherboard with some B150 one and locked version of the i5 (6500/6600). You can also get i7, but in my opinion, it is a waste of money if your main focus is gaming - not many games can utilize the extra cores and single-core performance is the same. If you plan to do for example some video editing, then the i7 will be a better choice, otherwise, pick the i5.
Also the exact model of motherboard will make difference too - you need good VRM for overclocking.

ryzen 1700 is the only one that's good for gaming. it's the same price as the 7700k and comes with additional cores. the thing is: 7700k has a ~10% higher IPS higher than the 1700 which makes the 7700k way better gaming cpu. the 1700 though is a better compromise between workstation and gaming station.

not the same anon but:
if you go with a z270 board, get the i5 7600k. it cost exactly the same as the 6600k and has more room to overclock.
as for recommendation:
I use a Gigabyte z170 gaming k3 with a 7600k on it. for that combination u need a skylake cpu to update your mainboard. I heard the Gigabyte Z270 gaming k3 is exactly the same but with the new chipset which supports the 7600k as well.

Our second hand pc market is kind of fucked here, computers that are 5+ years old go for 400eur+ because it's a small country and the middleman's buy up PC fast, i am not looking to get some high tier gaming rig. i guess il just bite the bullet and try to put something together with the new meme i3 killer processor that is like 60euros.

>>
>>35444151
That should be good enough for overclocking
As anon in >>35444127 said, gigabyte is good choice, I personally have the 1150 and Z87 version of this motherboard and it has been working just fine for 3 years now.
Basically, any motherboard from Gigabyte / Asus / MSI will be good enough, I don't have experience with other brands so I cannot give you advice on those. The exact model will also depend on your needs - if you want M.2 slot, 7.1 audio, more SATA ports, more USB ports, ...

Name two PC exclusives that don't have a "retro" graphics style.
>>
>>35444395
So what? Even if you add 5 years of Xbox Live/PSN and the cost of a console together it's still way cheaper than a gaming PC. Piracy is actually a much bigger pain the ass and a ton of games release on PC later anyway.
>>
>>35444414
Doesn't matter if a game is exclusive or not, he wants to play in 4k and 60 fps. Get it the second time now?
>>
>>35444173
buy the parts second hand (not including the HDD) not the whole pc.
>>
>>35444417
Lel what? 5 years of online is like 500 bucks plus another 500 for the console if you get it on release plus 60 for each game you buy. If you trade them in you may as well just rent them from Redbox or something. Pirate get to keep their games forever for free and usually get pretty damn good sales for the occasional multiplayer game plus we usually get offered cheaper editions too like with overmeme when console player have to buy the 60 dollar version.
>>
>>35444417
for one, gaming pcs aren't that expensive. and it's actually a lot cheaper to have one in the long run since the games are free and the online is free.
for two, piracy isn't a pain in the ass at all. and should you decide not pirate a game you can still get it for cheap with a key reseller.
for three, your gaming pc is also a good pc and not just a gaming machine which is pretty nice
