Well in our age group I think 18-25, there are half a million more men than women.

Seems kind of obvious that a big chunk of young men will just be perpetually single until plenty of others die or get dumped/divorced.

These factors influence male and female reproductive strategies to differ between humans.
Females tend to either mate for resources or mate for quality in a dude. Men tend to mate with whatever they have available, but put more empathise on seeking physically attractive women. When the resources required to live become so easy for a woman that she could mate with whoever she wants, beta males won't have any leverage to get her to mate with them instead of chad.
