You can run around and pick up wild possums and they won't do anything, you can put your hand in their mouth and they still won't bite, though I wouldn't recommend it.

But yeah, I run around in the woods in my neighborhood looking for possums to play with. I just pick them up and run around with holding them in my arms.

A lot of people though think that even if they fake it, with the hissing and showing their teeth, they'll still bite you or attack if you go to far. But in my expierence you can even mess with their mouth and they still won't even bite down, mostly.
