It depends on the job and your reputation. I work in a machinist shop and call-in absences are mostly ok. Everyone there wants to work there, they show up on time and keep working until they finish jobs, don't just clock out at five.

However, I've been told that some guys have been fired in the past, but those guys were pulling shit like not showing up to work four mondays in a row. Told they needed a note, didn't bother, got let go. The thing is there are more hardworking people out there, a company won't keep someone who abuses sick leave.

None of the places I've worked at ever asked.
