I originally wanted to major in International Relations but figured I'd be branded an idiot for life if I didn't go the STEM route. Almost all of my friends were doing physiology or human biology, so I latched onto a neuroscience degree and kept heaving even after I realized my heart wasn't in it.

Honestly, I think there would be a lot of things I'd enjoy doing and could do well - it's just hard to pick one over another. I've wasted a ton of time already and feel like I need to graduate and just get it over with. I'm 23 and still don't have my first BSc because I've taken so many semesters off to travel and go live in shit-hole countries like Turkey and India.

You'd be surprised how well it fits. There's a right way to do it, there's a set number of techniques, repetitive drilling, a lot of physics, cutting out anything that doesn't work and only keeping what's efficient. There's real pleasure to be gained in getting something just right or sharpening it up - and of course in beating someone else.

There are also a lot more headgames involved that you might think. Bear in mind, everything you're trying to do the other person knows how to do and they're trying to avoid it. Typically you have to take advantage of a mistake on their part or else mislead them: set up for a throw in one direction so they'll step off directly into the throw you'd had in mind. Then if they redirect there, you have another one waiting in the third direction. Taste the mat, roachie!

As I said, anything useless gets cut. I'd say pretty good. As you'll see in MMA though, they tend to supplement with some striking. Likewise, strikers always need to learn a little bit of grappling. Bear in mind, people who are untrained might now how to clumsily swing a punch but they have no idea what to do once they've been grabbed. When you've been training with people actively trying not to be thrown - and to be thrown you - it's very simple to throw an untrained opponent and of course, on concrete that will have an effect. That's putting aside all the chokes and holds as well. If you have two opponents though, you're pretty fucked.
