Americans get home from work and are too 'tired' to do anything other than mindlessly consume media. In reality though it's not tiredness, it's a mild form of depression caused by working their soul sucking jobs. Many of them don't even realize or suspect that their constant lack of motivation and energy is abnormal, because their parents were like that and so is everyone around them. A lack of testosterone may also play a roll, as whenever I muster the discipline to go the the gym for a week or so in a row I feel much more energetic.

In order to have a Ph.D in 1950 he would have to have started his undergraduate in 1942 (assuming 3 years for undergrad + 5 years for phd). The civil rights act didn't pass until 1964, and segregation of schools was only declared non-constitutional in 1952.

I'm just saying that given the time period, it's much less believable that it would have been anyone other than a white man.
