in australian news today a bogan was getting flack for setting up a go-fund-me after his ex killed one of their sons hed never met and then tried to drown the other. the older son escaped but ran to a dog and the dog mauled him. the guy set up the go fund me to get money to visit his son in hospital in a different state and to bury the one that was drowned. you could use this story or something similar. like "i need $5000 to fly across the country to visit my dying son in hospital who ive never met before"
