I'm sure it various from country to country but here in the UK it honestly isn't that hard. As long as you have some Secondary School qualifications that prove you're not a moron you can be accepted for training.

Training is pretty easy for the most part and you don't really have to know that much. People always think we know exactly what to do but most of the time we're just hoping the person doesn't die before we can get them to someone who actually knows what to do.

The hardest part is learning how to do emergency driving in an ambulance properly other than that as long as you're fairly smart and can pick up on things quick enough it's not too hard.

The worst part of the job is when you have to show up to a slightly dodgy call and the police don't consider it bad enough to send officers. I've had to defend myself from a knife attack twice because no cops decided to check if the scene of a stabbing was safe and just let us come through so if you're going to apply it might be worth taking some self-defense classes.
