Always take a receipt for this reason. If you are too shy take a moment to collect yourself before beginning interaction, I find that it lowers my anxiety a lot. Rehearsing and maybe taking a slow, deep breath. No, nobody is likely to notice unless you make a big show of it (which you would deserve if you did, and I doubt you would). I find it easier if it's serious instead of casual when it comes to conversation.

I remember eating in at burger king once and they had fucked up getting my order in the first place. The person who took my order came over, apologized, and gave me my meal for free plus a coupon book.
