You know, having gone through similar circumstances in my life (and having never recovered) I've been wondering about this recently, as well.

If I were a parent I'd be conflicted whether to tell my hypothetical child if he/she is not as good looking as the other children (assuming the child asked to begin with). If I said yes the child would be grateful to me, but he would also be deluded enough to think the same way you did when you were younger and would eventually get hurt as a result, lose faith in his parent who lied to his face, and suffer from a lack of self confidence. I'd like to say yes, we will make it out of this. But I guess it really depends on your luck. If there is one thing life has taught me over the years, its that trying doesn't matter. I can throw my self into studying for a test and still fail. I can play by the rules and follow societies mantra of "stay in school, don't do drugs, graduate college and get a degree" and yet still come out on the bottom. I think the sad reality of it all really is that some people were born to lose. I'm not saying thats you by any means. You may yet get out of this situation and prosper.

Where will I be in five years, huh? People used to ask me that question a lot. I used to give a hopeful response. But life only gets progressively worse. I can imagine how it could. Maybe my parents will die, or maybe the government won't allow me to continue on the REPAYE program for my student loans. I don't know what will happen but I'd bet that things will only get worse from here on out. I guess the silver lining is that, if thats the case, it'll never get better than today, so I should be happy to have had my life turn out as badly as it has. But maybe I'm just deluding myself.

My parents are wonderful people. They know I'm trying to "escape" my predicament, so they allow me to live with them despite how much of a failure I am. They honestly don't know the full extent of how I feel - I'm sure they would be heartbroken to know it so I just don't speak up.
