Don't stop

I think I am too dumb for programming

Get slightly tipsy and try again. Trust me.

No.

Try watching those SICP video lectures on MIT OCW if you want something resembling formal CS education. That is assuming your interest in it is already piqued by the simple tasks codeacademy gives, else it would just be very boring and you'll drop it by the first lecture.

Story of my life in programming

I feel like I'm retarded.

To be honest, simple useful things are MUCH harder than complicated tutorials, that's why you have problem getting on your own

>>35282556
That was my motivation too, it's much more rewarding than apps and webpages when ut comes to satisfaction

So basically practice a lot and try to have fun?

>>35282623
That seems to be the case, but I've noticed other programmers can figure things out. Like, when they have an object in C#, they just intrinsically know what to do with it. I almost wish there was a roadmap for me to become competent, but it seems like I'll just find myself there eventually.

SELF IMPROVEMENT IS A MEME
>Does not actually self improve

How about you neck yourself fucking loser virgin
>>
>>35282649
Just dick around with it until you do something useful by accident, no need for all these courses, they do more harm than good, look at open source stuff and mess with that too. All of the people who do programming will tell you that the most part of their knowledge is self taught.
>>
>>35282679
There is no such thing as "self improvement", every human is born (or develops during their adolescence years) with a determined set of skills.
>>
>>35282726
This is true. A lot of my friends got great at it because they messed around with it during highschool.

Where do you people get the motivation to do this?
>>
>>35282746
I learned to snowboard when I was 25 and became awesome at it. Nice logic retard.
>>
>>35282135
Download a college textbook for a computer science class and gradually work your way through it on your own.

Those canned tutorials online aren't great for helping you to understand what you can actually DO with what they teach you.

You're much better off drilling yourself on the fundamentals and working up from there.

If that doesn't work, you can totally just steal all your code off Github no problem.
>>
>>35282726
>Just dick around with it until you do something useful by accident
What would 'something useful' be? I think I could make a lot more progress if I had a clear goal that I could achieve with my current skills, but I can't think of anything that's not overly complex or print-hello-world-on-console tier simple

Draw a picture. Once you know how to write code, the main challenge is planning how it's all going to fit together.

Start with a simple calculator app. Think about each piece you need and how they will fit together in the end. And I know it sounds silly, but seriously, draw a picture.
>>
>>35282169

I set up my own HTML document to work on alongside the courses. I practice doing things I learn in CodeAcademy a few times independently in it and it really helps make things stick. Just throw random bullshit in it.

theres a lot of areas of computer science, anon. try and explore what you really enjoy. i personally love functional programming in haskell. not everything has to be web or games.
>>
>>35282512
>>35282930
The point is that I actually hate programming. The theory is fun but tell me to do something with what I learned and my motivation is dragged to the ground (call it laziness if you will), hell, same thing happened when I first learned to map for a game (produced one half-decent, improved another from someone else in a community and I refused credits).
I also wouldn't know what to do with the acquired knowledge. It is pointless, thank you for the suggestion though.
