You probably need to save up some money first. Get good at living on the cheap. Money is freedom. Also start applying to jobs in places that you'd like to live, but preferably somewhere a bit close so you can drive to interviews. People are more hesitant to hire someone from a longer distance away (at least that's what I've found)
You should also build up some job-related skills with some free online courses. If you're completely stuck on that, I usually say to start with learning SQL. It's not that hard to learn, very applicable to a lot of companies, and you can even do work online.

Yep, you're probably going to have to get some room mates. Remember that housing will be your largest single expense, so whatever you can do to cut that down, do it.
If NYC is too far for casual commuting, you'll need to do a lot of work online then. Try to get on LinkedIn and network with people that way.
Or, if you can get to know some people in NYC, maybe you can buy them pizza and beer to stay with them for the weekend for job hunting.

Just fucking go leave. You're the only one stopping you. That's what I did. I grew up poor in a shit hole and patiently saved up some of my NEETbux for a few years and fled to a major city. It's not that hard to find a small apartment in a large city. But I still turned out to be a NEET and loser, just slightly poorer and making it. Moving may give you more opportunity but it still doesn't change who you are. But it can change your outlook a little. Best thing it did for me was made me stop feeling suicidal since I live somewhere nice now instead of the middle of nowhere.
