It was dead with the gamergate meme, the fappening just trashed it even more. I think that's why he left tbqh

A few boards are still ok.

Pretend like the site is failing so people will give him money and put porn ads on the site.
>>
>>35243568
It's been in freefall, but I don't think Moot's departure or Hiro's purchase are the culprits, it's more so the traffic that the site has been attracting.

4chan has lost its reputation, and is now in the minds of most as a slightly more offensive Reddit. Not too long ago, people would be outright fearful of coming here.

If we upped the weirdo count and dropped the normie count, things would be a lot better, like they used to be. I no longer think that's possible, however. We've hit the point of no return, and this site is what it is now.

decline heavily but I don't think it was hiro's fault

it was because of autistic shit like gamergate and the election that 4chan was ruined

The degree of wit in day to day discussion has gone down considerably since I started lurking in 2006.

That being said the fact that I'm still here and regularly enjoy the stupid shit that takes place means that this place hasn't completely lost its touch.

Cuck or not, I hardly blame the guy for wanting to be something besides the admin of this cesspool. I'd have done much worse if I ruled this place for more than a decade.

Anyway, at least An Hiro is keeping things the way they've been, with the moderation in the background. The last thing we need is a bunch of autistic, power-trippy mods. Like moot always said, quality comes from the community. If 4chan is shit, it's Anon's fault.

I wouldn't say free fall, it sounds a bit to extreme.

Normies will come here no matter what.

Some redditors come here because they want to see the cool memes before they become cancer.
Many Australians come here because this is the only place they can get porn.

Some people go to /pol/ for news.

But while they are here it is inveitable that they will end up being less of a normie. And in the end you got more anons.
>>
>>35244094
This.

the whole 'traditionalism' shtick that's arisen on this website these couple years is laughable. Just lol at 4chan autistic nerds being 'traditionalist DEVS VULT WARRIORZ' (I am legit dying of laughter at that) this and sjw/feminism are basically two different sides of the same coin for losers with no self awareness
>>
>>35244232
Tripfags leave because they can just make their own tumblr blogs, YT channels or whatever and gain more notoriety. Also, newfags think tripfagging or namefagging ar inherently wrong even though back when moot made 4chan, it was literally mostly people from SA writing with their handles on the namefield. The whole "anonymous" shit only got more widespread around the Chanology times.
>>
>>35244298
Wrong. You removed context from my post. I said, "Good luck having a reasonable argument on /pol/. If they disagree with you, you're a shill, or a Jew, or a shit-skin, or maybe they'll just make fun of your country." You can't have a reasonable discussion on /pol/, because in lieu of arguments, they simply insult you. If you ever been there, you'd know that. Nice try, dumb-ass.

>>
>>35244414
I have considered it, and it's not true. You can have an interesting discussion on /pol/, but it's very rare. If you haven't noticed a trend of ad-hominem usage on /pol/, you're either delusional or aren't paying attention.
>>
>>35244399
DEUS VULT I WILL SAVE MOTHER EVROPA FROM MY BASEMENT

I'm not even a leftist, just that most people on 4chan are so entrenched LARPing as traditionalist vikings that it's just comical. These are the same faggots whining about degeneracy today are just bitter that they don't get to partake because they're not Chad. Whining about feminism and hookup culture is coming from people that aren't getting laid and aren't getting women's attentions - so out of bitterness and sour grapes they claim it's gross, unethical, and even destructive for society, when you know they would participate zealously if they were afforded the opportunity

same with whining about capitalism - people without human capital nor money whining about the evils of capitalism

Not saying there aren't any valid points, in fact a lot is true, but seriously- you autistd whining about feminism and how evil women are wouldn't be saying a damn thing if sluts actually wanted your dick; same with the 25 year old english lit majors from a state TTT and no human capital on reddit /r/latestagecapitalism and /r/sandersforpresident

Funny how when people are born with, or have something, it's out of virtue and the others are just entitled rabble - and when one is lacking there needs to be some kind of redistribution (of capital (in the form of social welfare programs), of sex (in the form of monogamy and marriage))

Of course there will be faggots who'll insult you, it's just a matter of being persistent you pathetic cunt.
For example, have you ever been to a leftypol thread? Yes, the op gets called out for being the filthy kike or libshit that he is, but in between the shitflinging there are points being brought up and points being knocked down. As long as you don't shy away like a little bitch and don't be "le obvious b8" you'll eventually get your arguments.
Take a look at any thread with the obamaleaf, for example.

-actual autists getting older and angrier

-memeposting becoming a popular form of shitposting with newfags
-/pol/ gaining so much influence that they basically have free reign to politicize every board

I really could go on, the point is japmoot had nothing to do with the decline, moot leaving was just a symptom of it

>>
>>35246421
Mixing the internet and real life is usually a mistake, people never seem to learn that
>>
>>35244072
It pisses me off to read stuff like this on /r9k/ in 2017.

4chan's been going to shit for a long time, because most casual posters come here for memes and don't care about discussion. Phoneposting makes banning nearly impossible, so even nazi moderation couldn't fix this place, unless they change the ban system in an inventive way or add user accounts.

Consistently, memes and children flood into a board after it has a burst of good OC (think POO POO PEE PEE, or the cat girls on leftypol, or Habbo Hotel, or even an individual image caption like the one where that girl got stalked by /lit/). When there's a slow trickle of new users, the new users are socialized according to the board's culture, and quality remains constant. When there's a flood of new users, children and redditors reply to each other's garbage and discussion quickly degrades. Eventually, most oldfags leave and the population is largely replaced.

However, meme kiddies and normalfags only pop in occasionally and can't actually support discussions. You can post the same bait every day for months and it will always get enraged replies, because there's a bottomless well of casual posters who check in every once in a while and are too stupid to identify copypasta. If the board is SFW, it becomes an endless series of flame wars (think /v/), if NSFW, it becomes an endless series of porn and flame wars (think /b/ or /r9k/).

Almost all of you fucks are cancer. If you don't remember Heinessen archive, you have no right to complain about the downfall of this website, because you were a part of it. /r9k/ was indefensible in 2015 and it's indefensible now. You fags even killed /lit/, and may have hurt /pol/ more than /pol/ hurt you.

I'm looking at "The Complete History of 4chan" and it claims thread archives started back in 2003.
>>
>>35246573
We had archives. I remember the thread where everyone pretended reality was one big MMO and God was the developer. You had to reach a certain post count to get there
>>
>>35244260
not the case, if you cant discuss anything coherently and logically and use emotions instead of facts
>your either a retard or a jew with an agenda
>>
>>35246649
>>35246663
That's not the same. Those archives only allowed certain "epic" threads. Usually based on votes. Archives like Heinessen just archive everything indiscriminately.
>>
>>35246637
It's depressing to think that, out of all the greentext stories /r9k/ churned out, POO POO PEE PEE comics and rare Pepes drew in the hoard of normalfags.
>>
>>35246682
Huh. When did the full archives come to use? I hardly ever use them even now, so they probably existed a few years before I first ventured into one.

>>35246665
That is sadly what ideologues in hugboxes are like. They themselves hold their views as the absolute truth and nothing outside of their sphere of knowledge. In a hugbox those views get further reinforced by other ideologues, until the person just turns into your average /pol/ak. Cognitive dissonance up the ass, no arguments and everyoen who disagrees with him is a shill from group X and thus not to be listened to or argued with.
>>
>>35246408
Looks like a fun lot

Why do they just have a jug of milk?
>>
>>35246542
I'd be willing to be most of the memes from this decade were done by people who haven't been on 4chan since its early years. In fact some of these memes weren't even started on 4chan. Even ancient memes like Pepe have been influenced by new users. Complaining about new people posting on 4chan is stupid. It's why the site continues to thrive and stay interesting.

>>35246573
>>35246753
Green Circle was archiving /g/ in 2008. I believe the largest, current /a/ archive also has posts dating back to 2008, though that's due to database transfers from previous archives to new ones.
>>
>>35246910
>Complaining about new people posting on 4chan is stupid
If a lot of newfags start browsing a board at one time the board's culture is dramatically changed or destroyed. A steady stream of new users is necessary if you don't want a board to die, but self moderation breaks down when there are so many new users that they can give each other positive feedback for bad content.

So? 4chan changes. It always has and always will. If it didn't this site would stagnate quickly. How many times have people cried about newfags killing 4chan? If their predictions were true we wouldn't even be having this discussion. Luckily not only were they wrong, they were completely and utterly wrong. 4chan has become more influential than anyone would have thought, even becoming noteworthy enough in things like politics to warrant news articles from reputable outlets and studies (one of which was even done by the UN).
4chan thrives when new users come in. You don't need to like all the changes that happen, but you either deal with the new or leave. The old will never come back.

Or I could just turn into the internet equivalent of the grumpy old guy sitting on his porch and complain about the cancerous newfags from Reddit shitting up my boards, spamming stale memes and acting like complete normalfags. Back in my days we didn't want 4chan to be relevant or influential.
>>
>>35247821
4Chan was always influential. The difference is that internet culture is more important these days. If YTMND had survived it'd be changing politcs
>>
>>35247821
People only bitch when there's an influx (or even a PERCEIVED) influx of new users. All the people who have been here for 10+ years don't bitch anymore. I'd even go so far as to say they also use other sites like Reddit.
Acting bitter because the past is gone will just end up making you bitter in general, even if you already are.
>>
>>35247887
>4Chan was always influential.
What influence it had was through memes and random bullshit that did not attract any attention beyond exploding vans.

>>35247900
>People only bitch when there's an influx (or even a PERCEIVED) influx of new users
Yeah, no shit? It's those newfags that stand out, don't lurk and completely alter the culture whenever they flood in.
>All the people who have been here for 10+ years don't bitch anymore. I'd even go so far as to say they also use other sites like Reddit.
Yeah, because most people have given up hope and just accepted the eternal summer.
>>
>>35247316
>If their predictions were true we wouldn't even be having this discussion
4chan is much worse than it used to be. If you say with a straight face that /lit/ has improved over the last two years, it's because you weren't browsing it two years ago.

I don't give a shit about visibility or political power, I want to have good discussions. It's nearly impossible to do that now, in a lot of boards (including this one). People just want the same, tired flame wars, and effort goes unrewarded and unrecognized.

Obviously it can't become what it was, and obviously nobody should browse 4chan. But when you have an internet community where you relate to most people and enjoy posting, it sucks to watch its culture become diluted and misunderstood, its front page devolve into awful memes and pornography, its replies shorten, and its posters get replaced by dumb asses. It sucks to come back after a month and wonder where everybody went. /r9k/ became something with no unique culture or identity, where most posters are dumb and mean, and where the most successful threads are the ones where half of their replies are complaints.

A few boards fall to cancer every year.

Fuck you.

And I fucking hate it. Normalfags ruin everything.
>>
>>35243568
It was in decline for a while before that. But now, you can really see that this site wasn't meant to last beyond the mid-late 2000s.
>>
>>35247952
>It's those newfags that stand out
When you're the one who has to get on a soapbox and complain about the current state of a board then you're obviously in a minority. You're taking up the retarded faux-elitism /a/ mentality, and why?
Bragging about how long you been here is stupid. You don't have any good way to prove it and even if you could no one really cares. Part of the beauty of 4chan is that even if you've been on the site for a week your post matters just as much as someone who has been posting since 2003.
And if people gave up hope then why are there still so many people from the 2000s still posting? If you want real oldfaggotry go to a site like 7chan. Their culture is very similar to how it was 10 years ago, and unsurprisingly they have stagnated.

>>35248129
The problem is you think I'm saying 4chan has to change for the better. It doesn't. 4chan changes whether you like the changes or not. Some are good others are bad. If you actually bother spending a significant amount of time on this site you realize it's pointless to cry over these changes. It just makes you look like a bitter idiot.

>I want to have good discussions
That's exactly the kind of thing sites like Reddit are for. 4chan is conductive to rapid shitposting, which is why quality discussions will usually be less common.

>it sucks to watch its culture become diluted and misunderstood
Don't you think people who were here before you felt exactly the same way? The problem is you refuse to accept the changes and cling to how things were. You refuse to look at all the good stuff that's come of modern 4chan, probably just out of bias.

You're looking at 4chan changing as something negative. It's not positive or negative, it's just a fact of life. There's plenty of fun, new threads and lots of fresh new content being posted all the time, so why waste it being bitter? You'll eventually miss this era of 4chan as well, if you stay around long enough. I hated 2011-2012 for example.

yeah if i recall you had to get like 15 votes in order for it to be put into the archive, otherwise it would be rejected and would die never to be seen again.

Anything I'd say you'd try and shut down. Not to mention it's completely subjective. All the Pepe OC we have no is far more varied and creative than the Pepe memes from the 2000s. We also have (you)'s, notifications, auto updating and more. Moderation is more consistent and less intrusive, boards are faster now than they used to be, etc.
>>
Neither m00t or hiro is to blame. This site has been collapsing since social media and normies took over the internet. The gamergate, fappening and US election just attracted too much attention and are just making things worse.

All dogshit. I liked the ">tfw to smart too" edits, but memes aren't the important part of 4chan, people and discussion are. /r9k/ is particularly baffling. So many people claiming to be robots, but no blogposting, no feelposting, these people say nothing about themselves and they're almost never kind to one another.

Also, boards almost always get worse when they get fast.

All the technical things are pretty minor, especially if you've been using a 4chan extension, and they don't make up for the site being full of garbage.

>>35248747
Depends on board, but most were somewhat better. Personally I liked Costanza.

I remember that shit now, any remotely decent thread had people begging for votes to get it archived. Still pretty faggoty but a much better overall system than archiving everything I think.

That's great. You have an opinion. Apparently your opinion seems to indicate you think the early 2010s were a good period. You know, that time in 4chan's history where a significant amount of posts, even on busy boards, were spam? How about the lack of CDNs which gave everyone basically dial up speeds? You have rose tinted memories.

>memes aren't the important part of 4chan, people and discussion are
Culture is literally made up of memes. You are using the term "meme" in the way a normalfaggot would. I literally mean memes. You trying to point out newfags is a common behavior on 4chan and even online communities in general. The way we talk to each other online and offline are constantly changing. It's silly to think 4chan wouldn't be affected just like everything else is.

>All the technical things are pretty minor, especially if you've been using a 4chan extension
4chan extensions didn't even exist until 2008/2009. Even then those were extremely rudimentary things like "404 defeater" which refreshed the page every 30 seconds. If you were writing a post and the page refreshed, you also lost your post. There were no backlinks or (you)'s on any of these scripts either.

almost every change moot made to 4chan was to make it more accessible & friendly to new users and impossible for boards to self-moderate against those fresh off the boat. He also surrounded himself with moderators who were at best out of touch and at worst actively hostile to the boards they were in charge of moderating

>autonoko
>hidden sages
>bans for announcing reports
>>>>mobilesite<<<<<
etc...

By the time moot departed 4chan was just an edgy alternative to reddit. thanks moot
